Yeah they did great tbh

wrote a fair bit then accidentally closed tab fml.

Basically:

Editing pacing and dialogue too slow. Dialogue was a bit dogshit and forced in general.
Episode pacing bad (even though they had more total screentime and cut episodes) eg omashu ep.
CGI good half the time but terrible other times eg aang + blue spirit castle wall prisonbreak fight
Katara's character didnt feel right.

Cartoon is better by virtue of it being better, if thats your first watch just watch that.

I liked some changes though, like earlier focus on the firelord/fire nation.

Its far from insanely good. I think it just passes the bar as an adaptation imo.

I could defs feel the lack of the og creators touch

Amen. Very godly experience depicted in the first half hour of this episode. From the circumstances that lead to Aang avoiding the Fire Nation to his wondrous return, giving sights to the Water Benders that they have simply never seen before. These folks are experiencing something they didn't think was possible.

Aye man. 43 minutes in I'm enjoying this s*** a lot. I'ma let yall know how fye this s*** really is, man.

I prefer Korra to TLA but I do love the franchise. This first episode is very entertaining and I love how they step up the violence and fight choreography. Zuko was bout to burn this mf Sokka up, damn.

Kyoshi was fye but I like Roku, Korra, and Yangchen a lot, too.

Aang reminding me of Jinora the way he's already very connected to the Spirit World.

You can tell Kyoshi has a lot of past regret by the way she is so adamant about serving her purpose as an Avatar the way she decided to. Losing someone can really do that to a person.

Damn! Suki the Kyoshi Warrior is bad af in this s***! I ain't expect that when she took off her makeup. She bad fasho. Sokka need to keep her.

Also, the Fire Nation be on these boys ass. Everywhere the Avatar be at, these boys come marching in ASAP. You gotta respect their intelligence network.
