    I think it's pretty clear that he went out of his way to tank his sales

    . Releasing on a sunday
    . Putting your entire album out for free the week before
    . Your album being free on torrents a week prior being your entire marketing
    . No real song titles minus the singles
    . No cover
    . No real album title

    But the question is why tho? He could have easily sold 250k-300k first week, he had crazy hype and even did Coachella last year..it just makes no sense to me.

    I don't even understand why a label would agree to tanking there potential sales in the first place..very strange.

    Quality project tho.

    The songs with the most streams on Spotify have around 1.5 million streams rn and the lowest performing songs go as low as 400k streams

    That's... not good at all. Jay Electronica had similar streaming numbers in the same time frame and he sold 28k fw (shorter album though)

    Let this be a lesson for all artists out there. These corny mysterious gimmicks are just not worth it. The album is amazing but this rollout truly ruined the success of it.

    Isn't he in a dispute with his label, probably purposely self sabotaging

    Only theory that makes sense in my head is that he wants to save all of his quality ideas for the music he’ll be putting out in the future as Donald Glover. All of his fans put so much importance into gambino as an era that they probably expect some type of grandiose last album, but Donald himself probably didnt want that.

    Again, ALLA is another album I like from Rocky, but his whole gimmick was goofy, and I feel like that was a big part why people didn't take that album seriously when it dropped initially

    Just releasing music for people to listen to without album artwork, track titles, music videos, and self-promotion is a gimmick now.
