    The King James Version has 66 books

    Ethiopian has 84 or more

    That doesn’t mean it’s better hahaha

    how's everyone's prayer life and faith doing?

    anyone diving into any literature that they'd wish to share? trying to find a christian book to read rn tbh

    Listening to daily audio Bible … sometimes. Need to be better about it. Prayer life is good but not great. Complain to god more than I thank him if that makes sense

    Better or worse is subjective

    It does mean there’s more to understand & take from than wants widely accepted though

    same here. i've seen it more associated to gnostic text, which is why i'm never too sure about it.

    i haven't read it in detail, so i could be wrong, but thought it was more about sayings from Christ rather than his life and journey on Earth

    Isn’t gospel of Thomas the one where he murders (by mistake, or out of anger) and has to resurrect someone as a child?

    And then I think the point is that if you don’t know something is wrong that doesn’t mean you have committed sin, or something

    Yeah but the validity of extra texts has to be brought into question

    Yeah but the validity of extra texts has to be brought into question

    If we are being honest, the validation of the Bible as a whole has to be put into question

    But in this sense of the “extra” texts, in my humble opinion, the Bible should be viewed from a different lens whether one is a believer or not

    Always. But there’s more documentation for the standard canon texts

    I understand but even if that can be considered the case, is there no merit or truth to be found in the other texts?

    i recall the resurrection part. i'm a literal murky on the death of that child though (need to reread the text at some part)

    Not really

    Gospel of Thomas is gnostic heresy. Which seems to be growing more popular recently and fits in very well w new age spirituality. Ultimately should not be taken anywhere near the same as canon scripture

    Psalm 91 - powerful

    1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High,
    who abides in the shadow of the Almighty,

    2 will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress;
    my God, in whom I trust."

    3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
    and from the deadly pestilence;

    4 he will cover you with his pinions,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

    5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,

    6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

    7 A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand;
    but it will not come near you.

    8 You will only look with your eyes
    and see the recompense of the wicked.

    9 Because you have made the LORD your refuge,
    the Most High your habitation,

    10 no evil shall befall you,
    no scourge come near your tent.

    11 For he will give his angels charge of you
    to guard you in all your ways.

    12 On their hands they will bear you up,
    lest you dash your foot against a stone.

    13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
    the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

    14 Because he cleaves to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he knows my name.

    15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will rescue him and honor him.

    16 With long life I will satisfy him,
    and show him my salvation.

    Church really makes you feel alive again.

    Isaiah 25:6

    On this mountain the LORD of hosts
    will provide for all peoples
    a feast of rich food and choice wines,
    juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.
    On this mountain he will destroy
    the veil that veils all peoples,
    the web that is woven over all nations;
    he will destroy death forever.
    The Lord GOD will wipe away
    the tears from every face;
    the reproach of his people he will remove
    from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken.
    On that day it will be said:
    "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!
    This is the LORD for whom we looked;
    let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!"
    For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain.

    It’s a plan that my Church devised they divide the Bible into 4 phases over 2 years
    I’m Coptic Orthodox btw
    We started phase 1 and for the remainder of this year we’ll be reading

    Ephesians (Oct 14-21)
    Malachi (Oct 22-25)
    James (Oct 28-Nov1)
    Daniel (Nov 4 - 21)
    Song of Songs (Nov 22 - Dec 3)
    Habakkuk (Dec 4-6)
    Matthew (Dec 9 - Jan 15)
