Srs is literally where his discography starts for me. i pretend everything before that doesn’t exist

Interesting you say that because he’s said that he considers idls his first album

Real. People d*** ride that album so hard.

Funny how he tried to repeat the formula with FoC and it didn’t work

How is FOC him repeating the SRS formula? They sound nothing alike

IDLSIDGO era was Earl at his peak and I wish it didn’t get overlooked so much

Yikes! IDLSIDGO is amazing. You're missing out if you haven't listened to it.

i’ve listened to it and still go back to it sometimes to see if i’m trippin. just never connected with me. SRS hit me on a spiritual level

    Unforgivable

Doris still his best album to me

its definitely my all time favorite from him, his rhyme schemes and overall approach to rapping in general was absolutely peerless imo

i do think IDLS/SRS would qualify as his best tho

Interesting you say that because he’s said that he considers idls his first album

Does he go into more detail on why?

I kinda agree with him tho. Feels like Doris wasn’t an album that he really wanted to make, nor did did it represent him that well as an artist

idls would make sense as a debut you see flashes & sketches of what he would eventually be able to do

I only really listen to srs & beyond but idls is sentimental

Doris is still my favorite from him honestly. Nothing else really sounds like it. It’s a great transitional record that refrains a lot of the darkness and sinister edge of the old Odd Future stuff but has really unique almost psychedelic production and more introspective writing. I like SRS and plenty of experimental hip-hop even more “difficult” than that, but I just don’t connect with it much the way some of you do. So much of it is monotonous to me. There’s an atmosphere to Doris and IDLSIDGO that his later work lacks.

That’s pretty much what he said, that idls was the first time he said something he can fully stand behind where he wasn’t rapping just for the sake of it

EDIT: He talks about it in the NPR interview from 2015 @HALLEBERRY
