Ok I've figured out what the song is about. It's about separating the art and the artist, How our idols aren't perfect but that doesn't tarnish the art and inspiration that artist gave
The second verse is from the perspective of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech.
Kendrick says "I was born August 28 1963" which I googled and it was the date of that speech. Then it all just clicked for me
