As much as the current pop resurgence is a result of the (predictable) infrastructural reset with radio’s increased chart weight, I don’t think that’s the root of it. Perhaps the general public started to gravitate back towards pop (probably growing tired of current mainstream hiphop as well), and the data across platforms started to rapidly trends towards that. In response…radio got weighted more on the charts to reflect this

Olivia right? If so I’m with you and I called it would go this way when I saw the Drivers License numbers
Dua and Abel…
Wouldnt count Dua, her songs never smashed but they were gradual and floated in the top 20 because they were being played on Target and Walmart playlist. Good 4 U by Olivia blew up and became an overnight smash hit, like Flowers
I will always hate everything this woman makes after what she said about hip-hop
What did she say?
Worth mentioning this is her single for her 1st studio album with Columbia Records after leaving RCA

Was gonna give this song a listen. Then I saw the post about her bashing hip hop.
Looked into what she said, and gagged.
Dismissing an entire art form after co opting it and using it to get people interested in you?
Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever be interesting in something she does ever again.

I think everything just comes and goes in waves.
As much as I love rap, I’ve been listening to more singing music recently just because I’ve been getting a LOT of music primarily built around rhythm and lyrics lately, and I wanted some stuff that was just breezy and sounded nice as a change of pace.
Even still it’s nothing to worry about. Just like pop wasn’t completely gone in the 2010s rap won’t completely disappear.
Some good artists probably won’t reach their full commercial potential, simply because of changing trends, which is sad AS F***, but it’s not the end of the world
