Idk before Black Adam I would’ve said he has a higher ceiling, but Bautista has left him in the dust in terms of ability and range. I don’t think the Rock psychologically is even capable of playing the roles Bautista has played these last couple years. He has a very rigid public perception he wants to keep, which Black Adam showed to his extreme detriment.

Bautista is able to play small, he has this ability to minimize himself despite his size and appearance (see: knock at the cabin).

Rock tends to always go big which is not a bad thing necessarily, because plenty of great actors only go big but that is a difference.

yea he's obsessed with remaining in people's good graces and the "no lose" contract clause doesn't help either. bautista has definitely excelled further as a character actor, although it's mostly been relegated to small roles. with this + the mark kerr-safdie movie, rock has a chance to be seen as a more complex and dynamic performer. after those two i'm intrested to see how his public perception will change and if he still has political aspirations
