He should at least keep the second half and maybe do something else with the first half. The breakdown is waaayyyy too good to scrap
I KNOW WHAT WE NEED
WE NEED 1943 TEQUILA

look at 98% of this thread loving this song. it’s the quintessential drake everyone fell in love with from the start of all this and there’s nothing wrong with that.
the simpler production on songs like this and losses let the words cut through more. don’t understand how one can sit back and just say “they’re boring” when both of those beats are sonically really nice just from the samples alone. lyric wise you can say “i’ve heard drake talk about fake friends 1000 times” but why do you think everyone still loves the song... because it’s still relatable, it’s still quotable. these are things people deal with in their day to day lives so there is always people who will love and appreciate these tracks.
not every new drake song has to be some groundbreaking new production style with a new cadence. especially an introspective track. it’s nice having new tracks like these because tracks like these are what made most of us fans to begin with.
I think the main issue with Drake now is the repetitive subject matter. He can try every genre under the sun, collect a bunch of different flows and cadences like infinity stones and rap as well as he has in the past. All that don't matter if he is saying the same things he been saying for the past 10 years.
The fact that this is quintessential Drake is the problem. People want him to evolve and expound his subject matter outside of strictly himself and if He still needs to do that at least let it be new s*** about himself he haven't heard a bunch of times. This is why people said Views was "Safe Drake". It's the Drake he knows people fell in love with. Like you said it's relatable Drake but the topic is something we've heard too many times.
I’m going to get dragged for this but Drake working with OZ & bringing him into the camp was/is a horrible idea
While his production works well with Drake’s song writing it’s painfully generic & brings nothing new to the table
Even Greece sounds like a Pierre Borne beat , and I really like it
how does greece sound like a pierre beat lmfao
I don't think this is the finished version, I seriously doubt, this would have been a track on the project.
I agree that Drake needs to stop rapping/singing on sparse beats. I think if he attempted the same things on more interesting beats they would be more well received.
So much talk for just one song leaking lol
Song is good to great - no doubt about that
The people who don’t want an album right now are more worried about how much it’ll sell, not about the music it’ll produce.
As for it leaking, that’s on Drake. He knows how to deal with leaks cause around 2013-2016, not much was leaking. Something changed and that’s on him to fix it.
My guy, it's called self promo. I'm sure there are some tracks he was upset to have leak but the majority not a coincidence. To save us from back and forth off of scraps of evidence and assumptions let's be honest and understand an artist like Drake is in control of 99% of whatever we think we are arm chair detective-ing

Bro these people ran out of other things to criticize so now its “boring” or “uninspired” or “lazy flow”
Like Peak/Finesse, I love the songwriting on them but I find myself listening to other versions (i.e Bryson Tillers remix sped up) because of the vocal layering and things like that.

Yikes
I love the minimalistic production
Makes drakes vocals really hit.
Not every song has to be overproduced lmao

but how many of these songs that are claimed to be “the same subject matter” and “follow the same formula” do we get on actual albums or official projects?
there was lose you and do it disturb on more life, 2 songs out of 22
emotionless is really the only one like any of these that you guys say “follow the same formula” with the same subject matter of not trusting friends, fake people, etc on scorpion so that’s 1 song out of 25
views had u with me, and there’s really nothing that checks the “formula” boxes on there so again 1 song out of 20 unless you wanna count keep the family close too
dldt had losses and (maybe chicago freestyle) that follow the “formula” but everyone loves chicago freestyle, 2 songs out of 14
so what are we doing here... if anything we should appreciate these introspective tracks more because on albums and projects we get the least of them
I still remember when the untitled snippet dropped back in march and I made one of the first edits from the snap.
ktt2.com/need-me-lotta-42-edit-47221
I still can't believe the title "Need Me" stuck.
When the snippet dropped i had a feeling that "Need Me" line was a better interim title than "Lotta 42"
And then need me started trending on twitter
3 months later we get this track!
DRAKE SZN really speaking this into existence.
Like Peak/Finesse, I love the songwriting on them but I find myself listening to other versions (i.e Bryson Tillers remix sped up) because of the vocal layering and things like that.
Same. I replaced his Finesse with Bryson Tiller's on my playlist. way better imo and I hate that I said that because I used to hate when people would say so and so's cover was better than the original Drake made.
Like obviously if an actual singer sings his singing songs they will having the better singing on it technically but Drake usually has a style he does that just fits the song better for me but not this time. Dude did not sing this song well and the beat, although not bad at all, could have had more spice to it.

You’re not doing what you think you’re doing here
These tracks are literally being BOUGHT by groups of people from sellers

You are looking at it the wrong way. It's not about how many he has on one project.... We are talking about his career in general and it's not just his introspective tracks it's all of styles he does. It's bad that you can predict what the artist is going to talk about before the song comes out because it just seems like he has a checklist of s*** he always needs to say ready.
-His problems with his hood/bad girl acting up
-Women doing him dirty
-Love for strippers and money
-His boys and how much he loves them like brothers
-The opps
-How much his fame has changed people around him
-Loyalty towards him
etc etc....
No matter how good the song is, if it's the same subject matter rapped and sang in a similar way then it's just songs cosplaying as older songs. And it's even worse if the song musically ain't as good as the older the songs.
The people wants him to talk about new things and have songs centered around different s***. Although I really would like more conscious music from him, he really doesn't have to do that.
His R&B music is usually emo and s*** which is quintessential Drake. How about a love song? I think Nice For What was so well received because it was a really positive song uplifting hardworking women in general and not just another song where is complaing about some stripper/ig model doing him dirty.
His Rap music is usually braggadocio or talking about fake niggas and the opps and his boys etc etc. How about a rap song where he is talking from the perspective of Mario and how annoying it is to Rescue peach all the time or some s***
The dude plays Fornite among other things and even invested in a gaming organization and s*** maybe a bar/verse/song about gaming? I heard he likes Harry Potter and s*** maybe sprinkle some hogwarts rap or something
You know when he said on Diplomatic Immunity that he "listens to heavy metal for mediation"? I remember thinking "Wow he listens to heavy metal? that's something interesting about him I never knew" and I also wished he said more s*** about him the general public would have never known.
Point is Drake needs to be more creative with his subject matter. It doesn't have to deviate too much but it definitely should happen a lot more than it does now because he hardly does it right now. Over the course of a decade.
Bro???? I can’t even remember the last time a song made me feel like this
This s*** is GOATED
You’re not doing what you think you’re doing here

I understand that, I'm not concerned with those tactics. The fact is songs are getting into people's hands and the level at which that is happening is not some phenomenon that Drake isn't aware of or caught off guard by as you imply. Leaks are part of the culture now and Drake follows those trends closely. Doesn't mean he is leaking them himself it could be as simple as letting the lower tier shiet go where it goes.

And that’s the problem, this behavior incentivizes Drake to give us more safe songs like these opposed to taking more risks and giving us song like Vital, HOWGH or Feel no Ways
Why stunt his growth as an artist just to please quintessential fans that want that enjoy the same old content ?
I never said it was boring, but this songs is nothing special because he’s done it countless times in the past & 42 sound isn’t even better than most of those introspective records released in the past
Nah for real y'all are trippin. The thing that made Drake stand out was that he rapped about his experiences and it was relatable to us.
On top of that, the content has varied a lot over the past 5 years but it'll never be enough I guess. Maybe you should just consume the music and enjoy it or don't. He ain't taking our advice and never should.

He can do that without following & reusing the same formulas
Paris Morton Music 2 is introspective Drake yet the production is nothing we’ve heard from before
HOWGH was pop Drake but at the time it’s literally a version of Drake/sound we’ve never heard before
The subject matter isn’t the necessarily the problem but it’s the safe beat selection & Drake’s safe approach to the songs he’s been releasing since Views

Would you include In my feelings in that list of songs you mentioned

I would honestly include IMF & NFW to that list as well but they were in my opinion a new direct for pop rap Drake despite not being that risky/experimental

Oh then we just disagree. I love the production on both Scorpion and More Life.
