You know what? F*** it - even though I’ve been waiting over 4 years for this s***, it’s quite clear that Naughty Dog has totally f***ed it up regardless of the reason for their decisions. It’s basically either be disappointed now or 52 days later. I’d rather get it out of the way now so if anyone can sauce me the cutscenes, it’d be much appreciated

Still have yet to see an explanation for how any of these leaks are legitimately game ruining. Plenty of evidence of a heavily expanded gameplay experience. Yeah some of the plot lines seem cliche or forced but y’all have to be looking at the first game through rose colored lenses because it really isn’t the groundbreaking achievement in story writing that people are acting like it is. It’s obviously a great narrative but it’s literally rife with zombie media cliches. And alsoit’s literally a post apocalyptic zombie video game? A concept that has literally been done to death a million times over. A good story can still be told through cliche plot points. The Last of Us is far more about character writing/depth than actual groundbreaking story plot.

If the characters introduced are as well written as the characters in the first game then I really don’t see the problem. Game will still be hugely fun to play.

And also one of the biggest themes of the last of us was that no one was a hero in the story. Joel literally killed so many people over the course of that game and before it, and many of them did not deserve it. Did y’all really think he was gonna make it to the end of the next game? Did any of you actually play the same game I did? He barely lived through the first game. He’s quite literally a murderous psychopath in a world full of murderous psychopaths.

And y’all really think it’s unfeasible that a group of younger ppl with blunt objects would be able to take out an old man pushing 60 years old? Joel is lucky in an unlucky world and unfortunately his luck was going to run out.

I found the gameplay boring so the story is what I got it going for me. Joel being killed is some stupid s\*\*\* tbh.

fair that you found the gameplay boring, but if you thought joel was going to live through the second game then i’m not even sure you played the same first game as me. it would almost be ridiculous for him to comfortably live on into old age after all of the horrible things he’s done. ! there are plenty of games with more inventive story writing if that’s all you’re here for though.

No, playing as the killer for the second half of the game and trying to kill the other main character would be the actual stupid s\*\*\*.

It doesn’t even seem far fetched that half the game would be from an enemy’s perspective!. The last of us is literally a game about people who do what they have to do to survive and the idea that Joel and Ellie would always be the villains in someone else’s story. It was pretty clearly gonna explore that avenue.

Obviously no one expected it to be this in depth but like... do y’all really think they didn’t think about the fact that the character would be hated by the time you started playing as them? ! Like the story is trying to fulfill a very clear purpose and obviously they’re going to have to do a lot of ground work to get you to sympathize with a character like that. I’m more shocked that people think it’s not something they’re capable of? It’s a really bold narrative decision that would obviously have shocked a lot of people but if from this other person’s perspective ellie is a cold blooded murdering psychopath who needs to be dealt with... and we actually SEE the results of her actions from the perspective of the people affected the most... it would obviously add a lot of depth to our protagonist. It would basically be the story of ellie becoming joel.

I could be wrong that they’re just going to fumble it and ruin a great property but like... Naughty Dog has yet to do that so? I think people should be more upset about the workplace culture honestly.

I feel it would've made more sense to begin the game as Abby so we view the world through her lens and get a chance to have her character grow on us, and allow us to understand her actions when she inevitably kills Joel. Then we can switch to Ellie for the second half. Instead, we see Joel killed, and then play this newly introduced character that the playerbase would understandably hate, with the mission of killing the other character. Just a very high risk choice that might not pay off.

This is an entirely separate thread for purpose of discussing the spoilers is it not? They should enter the other thread that said (SPOILERS = BAN) for spoiler free content.

No, it's a thread warning people that spoilers have surfaced on the internet. But if you wanna discuss spoilers, just tag your s*** out of courtesy for those who don't know the details of the game (especially since the title doesn't explicitly say it's a spoiler thread)

honestly it was expected that joel would die this game, so thats not what i dont like. i also think its unfair to judge bc we havent played so far. but joel and ellie are 2 characters we LOVE, killing BOTH off and then making us play as their killer is... an interesting thing to do... but reading that we're gonna do that obviously doesnt sound good. also the backstory of Abby sounds kinda trash.. shes just the daughter of a random doctor u killed ? i feel like that reveal in game will be a ????????? moment and not a WOOWWWWW type twist like if it was of a bigger character. But i feel like thats what theyre going for and ur lowkey right. theyre going for the 'no one is the good guy' vibes but idk i feel like that could be done better

also.. LOVED the part 1 gameplay so this is still a day 1 purchase for me

I definitely feel that. I don’t want to be overly optimistic about it bc it would be ridiculous not to see the writing on the wall as far as some of the lazy story elements we already have

if it makes you feel any better I read from a pretty reliable source that Ellie doesn’t actually die and people mistook a scene from the middle of the game as the end scene but she does apparently make it to the end!
