    Ellie is not dead lmao

u right, but making us play as a character that killed joel (my fav character from the original) and who beat the s\*\*\* out of ellie just doesnt feel right to me.

  • kingfredo

I definitely feel that. I don’t want to be overly optimistic about it bc it would be ridiculous not to see the writing on the wall as far as some of the lazy story elements we already have

if it makes you feel any better I read from a pretty reliable source that Ellie doesn’t actually die and people mistook a scene from the middle of the game as the end scene but she does apparently make it to the end!

u right! look at my reply to the other poster above :D

Lmfao hopefully it’s nowhere near that bad. I’m really hoping that they can create something strong enough that the gripes we have with it are thoroughly addressed in a thoughtful way over the course of the story.

I think it's a really cool and inventive narrative device if done right, I don't see how it's any different then movies devoting screentime to villains. And I highly doubt her playable section will be much longer than say Ellie's in TLOU1

yea the difference between the GOT leaks and these is that GOT was a tv show

i feel like with a game just reading plot points will always be worse than actually playing through it so it might be way better while playing and ill eat all my words (or however u say that in english)

  • Apr 29, 2020

Honestly after I caught a spoiler and ending up reading up on everything that leaked yall are blowing this WAY out of proportion lmao, half the s*** that people are circulating isn't even true man cmon

this is exactly my thing. like yeah a lot of the elements we have now seem kinda shallow and trite, but we literally just have a map with all the major landmarks plotted, and the real adventure will be the story and gameplay in between those moments. it’s just not the same with video games. to the point that I would even say video games can do a lot more with seemingly shallow ideas by building a greater context.

    exactly

like im thinking about my half life alyx playthrough, and on paper that would sound super mid, but playing through it in VR it made everything 30x better

the way they reveal things in games is way different than in other mediums, everything is way slower and 1 step at a time, and because youre so busy playing everything just hits way .. slower ?

A lot of the information that people are running with is literally false too lmao

Looking at everything all we know for sure is that Abby kills Joel, and you play as her for a section of the game and Ellie lives. There's still a LOT in between all that, from what I understand there aren't even a full hour of leaked cutscenes.

Yeah man the response to these leaks have been ridiculous. Like from the way ppl have been talking about it you’d think that some horrible gameplay mechanics were introduced but no those parts have just been kinda swept under the rug. The fact that there are portions of the game that are basically open world and non linear has me super excited.

it's pretty obvious that people have twisted the details of what has actually leaked in order to manufacture outrage (just like with everything these days unfortunately) even when things that have leaked contradict what they're running with

Like "trans woman kills Joel and Ellie" is literally the most bad faith clickbaity narrative that you can come up with lmao, there's absolutely nothing to show that she is trans, and it's already been proven that Ellie makes to the end.

From what I understand the only real major story detail we know is that Joel dies, which is something anyone with half a brain could have seen coming a mile away, and is a narrative decision that makes complete and total sense

As for playing sections as Abby, I don't see how that's any different than No Country for Old Men following Anton Chigurh around or Infinity War following Thanos around. Giving the supposed villain of the story screentime and following things from their POV v is a tried and true storytelling device that hasn't really been implemented in games before and that sounds very exciting to me. And I'm already calling bullshit on you playing her for the entire second half, when we've seen absolutely nothing to confirm that

it’s nice to talk to ppl with sense about all of it because a lot of the discourse surrounding these leaks has been... a lot. legitimately difficult to engage with. I’m glad I’m not the only person who doesn’t see what everyone else does.

    Likewise bro

It's really a shame what clickbait culture has done to online discussions these days. In general the discourse surrounding this game since we saw that trailer with Ellie's girlfriend has been exhausting. I'm still just as excited as I was for the game, maybe even moreso now but I am dreading the discussion around it lmao

sympathising or agreeing with Abby isn't gonna be as easy as it was for people to do with Thanos. Everyone in tlou is a killer or going to be one so at this point the imprints people have on Joel and Ellie isn't gonna be easily changed just cause of what they had to do to survive
