you don't have to sympathise with a character in order to for them to be well written, interesting and compelling and at least understand their motivations, and ND has shown that they are more than capable of doing that

I mean, there are a lot of people who don't even sympathise with Joel in the first place and would flat out consider him to be the villain of the first game's story, that in itself was a huge debate when the first game came out

Reverse revenge stories only makes sense when there is character development throughout a long period of time where you can get attached to said character (i.e. Zuko in Avatar) and even then it can still turnout trash.

I think a lot of these reactions are really kneejerk, there's still a lot we haven't seen, at the end of the day all this is being based off of a couple of cutscenes with very little context, and a good chunk of what's being spread still being pure speculation at this point

Cant sympathize with this character when the Fireflies were complete c***s. If you read all the files and s*** it became even more apparent that they were swinging blind and had no idea what they were doing, so this narrative that Joel ruined the chance of a cure and doomed everyone doesnt work.

Of course we wont know how it all comes together but so far it sounds like complete garbage and my hype for the game is mostly dead.

There's something sick and beautiful about the progression of who the player controls. It's like having Ellie be gay isn't enough for the people who insist on that type of content.
