Everything that was established in the first game is now meaningless...because now Joel and Ellie are perceived as the evil ones? Where the beauty of the ending in the first game is how Joel's decision was never based off the idea of right/wrong. It was a reactionary human decision he had to make to save someone he loved. On top of that, Joel and Ellie are both killed by the daughter of a non existent and inconsequential character from the first game that naughtydog shoehorned in. Like are you f***ing kidding me? And for some inexplicable reason they're transgender? It offers nothing to the story that the entire first game established. No wonder people are pissed. Of all the routes naughtydog could have gone and they go with this. Its baffling and downright stupid financially, the total lack of awareness from the devs at naughtydog is embarrassing. The last of us should not have been a franchise to highlight some arbitrary and frankly selfish personal political beliefs into. Its so much more than that both artistically and narratively. When people are expressing their disappointment in the direction they've gone, maybe its because they're witnessing the downward trajectory of a game that they love or has somehow affected them. Its silly to immediately label people as transphobic. So please f*** off people are allowed to have opinions.

the series is mostly about the ugliness of a post-apocalyptic world, and the beauty of the little glimmers of hope that remain, mostly coming from Joel and Ellie’s relationship. this game just seems like ugliness for the sake of ugliness.
