Knicks front office are aggressive in trade talks for Collin Sexton
Right now the asking price for Sexton is: Knox, Obi, and a first.
Seeing a lot of Knicks fans against this move. Mostly because they don't wanna trade Obi so soon, but because they believe Sexton is not the PG we are looking for on some "You can't turn a two/scorer into a playmaker" type s***....despite us just having Julius Randle give us an All-NBA and All-Star season as a point forward seven years into his career.

If that's all they want then we should do it. Obi showed something later in the year and in the playoffs for sure but he will never get serious playing time with Julius here.

I'd hate to let the kid go myself because he literally cried for us when we drafted him. But I also gotta be realistic. I don't see Thibs ever running a small ball lineup enough to make use of Obi and Julius on the court together, and it seems the FO is genuinely invested in Mitchell Robinson regardless of him being injury prone.
If that's the offer you gotta pull the trigger on that forreal. Also, at the very least, Obi gets to go to Cleveland and he'll instantly be beloved as he was great for Dayton. Also he'd serve as a replacement for Kevin Love since the Cavs want to move his contract. Darius Garland, Kevin Knox, Obi Toppin, and Jarret Allen? Aye it can work a lil bit maybe

This is a rare opportunity imo you don't get guys on a rookie contract who are putting up the numbers he is very often. They are the ones who'd be trading for a guy they could've just picked themselves in the draft + Kevin Knox who hasn't shown a whole lot other than ability to knock down corner 3s, and a late 1st rounder. If you ask me it's fr a no brainer, Obi was just the wrong pick I really don't think they anticipated Randle having the year he had, cuz it made no sense to pick a guy who is only going to get 15 mins a game.
Sexton only 22, Thibs will get the best out of him DO IT PLEASE.
When it comes to Mitch I hope they're not overly invested we need a guy who can shoot the ball at least decently at C, it will open up a lot for Randle and RJ.
It's def a risk tho because Sexton is in his final year and then you'll likely have to pay him close to a max or a max depending on how he plays, but for what your giving up I think it's worth it.

It seems like such a no brainer move but I've come across Knicks fans who think we're better/above Collin Sexton because he "gets us nowhere". It's amazing what a playoff appearance does to this fanbase

He's up for an extension so it'd still be cheaper to do that than getting into a bidding war for Lonzo Ball where we'd very likely end up overpaying him for 4-5 years.

I'm not saying Sexton is or will be Dame level but you can't tell me he's not in the same ballpark at only 22, this is such a better trade than selling the house for Dame. We have a future with this one. Sexton def gets us somewhere, he's a guy who can score the f***ing ball and our weakness all year and in the playoffs was doing just that.

My thing is I find people worry way too much about his playmaking ability. The dude can break a defense down and he'll have passing options like RJ, Randle, IQ, and lobs to Mitch. If Sexton can be a 5 or 6 assist a night kinda player. He's gonna be fine. Even moreso because now IQ, RJ, and Randle passing/ball movement improves immensely.
S*** if Collin Sexton can average 24pts and 6asts for us those are literally Steph Curry kinda numbers at the point. Gotta be smoking rocks if you don't take that when you have the opportunity.

The Knicks should’ve done this tomorrow if that’s what it’s going to take

The only other thing that could be delaying this is if the Cavs are tryna find a way to also ship out Kevin Love.

We giving up a first for Sexton… wut?
We should be trying to ship out randle too.
Randle isn't THE guy but he definitely A guy, trading him would be foolish good luck getting anyone to come here ever if we ship out a guy who pretty much revived the franchise, players would avoid us like the plague. He's a great 2nd, 3rd option it was clear that he can't be your best player on a team that makes it deep into the playoffs

A late first rounder likely isn't turning into a guy who is at his level

It was a report from Shams for The Athletic, The Knicks are aggressive in trade talks for Collin Sexton offering Obi, Knox, and a pick for Sexton. Pretty much reported Sexton's price tag for the rest of the league if interested.
Personally I think there's a way we can make that trade happen without giving up Obi, but if that is all it takes to get Sexton...just do it anyway lol
Honestly my only issue with a Sexton trade is that we'll have to max him and I'm not sure how I feel about that

I'd give up a late first for a dude who can average 24 a night. Scoring was what we were definitely lacking last season
He's also able to run the point. I don't think he's that great at it, but he is only in his third year, and he was also playing for the Cavs. Personally I believe that we have the staff that can utilize him properly within our system, and he should be able to give us 26pts and 6asts for the season with us next year. I'll consider that trade a success. Especially when you can save a bit by extending his rookie deal. Which we should if he ends up doing that for us because that means he definitely fits well on the team.

Honestly that is a fair take too. But I will say, if your 23yo PG/SG is able to give 26pts and 6asts a night...would you not max them?
S***, I'd be cool if he gave me 26pts and 4asts for the season if that also means that RJ, IQ, and Randle have improved more and are all playing well too.
Collin Sexton's ability to score was exactly what needed the most in the playoffs
Honestly my only issue with a Sexton trade is that we'll have to max him and I'm not sure how I feel about that
Yea this is the only potential negative, but if we max him and he's still putting up those numbers hes definitely not untradeable with that contract. this isnt a 32 year old with injuries making max money or anything.
If he develops further and can just improve with playmaking and defense (thibs will get that looking better) then we really found a cornerstone player for not much at all.
