He needs to pin that tweet too and Drake needs to post it. Wizkid stans on twitter dumb as f*** don't know how many times I got to explain to them that Wizkid didn't write the whole song. Their only proof is a picture of an award Wizkid got for being a writer on the song.

They don't realize that everyone who contributed to that song got one. They think you hating on him but it's just speaking the truth. They swear Wizkid single handedly made One Dance what it was

I'm half-Nigerian. I've been listening to Wizkid since he was featured on M.I's "Fast Money, Fast Cars" back in 2008, before he signed to Banky W's label lol.

I know how huge he was back then. I saw him in perform in the UK in 2012/2013. Like I said, he was a superstar in Nigeria and Africa but he hadn't blown up globally. One Dance did that. Even he himself has admitted that. After One Dance is when most of his collabs with international acts started coming in as well.

He has been big in more than Nigeria for a long time. Partly because African communities spread to all over the world so he been doing big venues and festivals

Also, I’d say Made In Lagos did more for his ascension in America. Americans still didn’t care about solo Wizkid after one dance.

Also he won awards all over the world before 2016. Maybe the average white pop kid didn’t know wiz but if you talking the biggest African artist he’s been that for a decade. So there’s not been something such as an African super star ? As big as a continent Africa is? Just disregard a whole continent and it’s diaspora 😆

I literally said he was a superstar in Nigeria and Africa before One Dance.

Yes, people still didn't care much for him as a solo act after One Dance but it boosted his profile more than ever before and gave him a global presence unlike he had before, enough to make other artists take notice and start reaching out to collab. Even he can't deny the impact One Dance had on his career.

Yes, now with Made in Lagos, he's breaking through properly in the US but it's like the Bad Bunny for instance. Being featured on I Like It and then getting Drake on MIA boosted his profile in the US and after that, he started to break through properly with his own records but he needed those international collabs to break down the door and make people take notice.

Ask them why he hasn't made a One Dance before that or after that and they won't have a response for you. Just a very loud and ignorant set of people.

You know me I don’t try to downplay drake impact lol. My main thing here is people not thinking Wizkid was some small artist that drake put on. That isn’t true . He’s a super star of a whole continent and big in many other markets

Big awards , big shows, big songs in markets outside Africa before one dance

But One Dance was a major moment for him. Not just the song but showing that the worlds could mix very successfully

He cared enough about people saying The Weeknd wrote Take Care to make a comment about it on Instagram why is it such a leap that he’d care about this?

    Yes tf

It didn't "something", it broke him internationally. Before then, he was just a superstar in Nigeria and across Africa. He'd do the occasional show in Europe but that was it. One Dance gave him the most visibility he's gotten in his career till date and it's still the biggest hit he's ever been a part of (and will most likely remain the biggest hit of his career).

He's always shown humility and gratitude to Drake for the look but his fans and other people around him are the ones who have acted weird and tried to push it like he gifted Drake the song and he's the reason the song blew up.

Wizkid was making millions way before One Dance my guy

But yeah it definitely made him reach a new level

I'm a big fan of drake and I've met, him, Wizkid Sarz, and 85. I hate to say it but there is a version with just Wizkid. And 85's comment of "who is Sarz" makes me wonder if 85 even knows what he's talking about here

Sarz is to Wizkid as Metro is to Future. there is a version with just Wizkid and Wizkid is singing the part that Drake sings in the final version. maybe that version was recorded after Drake wrote it, idk. but it exists

No one is saying it doesn't exist. We know it does. But Sarz didn't produce One Dance. Nineteen85 is the main producer on that song. He made the entire beat and Drake is the one who told him to use Kyla's vocals on the bridge of the song as he'd been a fan of hers for years. DJ Maphorisa's contribution to the song was slowing down Kyla's vocals and then it got sent off to Wizkid. At this point, everything was already done. Drake had recorded his vocals and the hook and Wizkid simply added his vocals to the song. Drake's team ended up not using the vocals as they were and they were mostly relegated to being used as sort of a sample but that's about it.

I know Sarz is a big time Nigerian producer but he didn't make the beat. Wizkid probably asked for the complete beat to figure out the full extent of his contributions and sent extensive vocals back so Drake's team could use as much as they wanted but we know Drake's verses were written by him and if Nineteen85 is so insistent that the only thing he contributed to the song were his parts then there's no reason to doubt him. He was the closest producer to the song so he knows what is sounded like at every point in time. We know Drake wrote his own verses and that hook sounds exactly like something Drake would come up with. Drake has similar lines about higher powers/enemies on several songs off More Life.

Wizkid is a talented artist and no one is denying that but Wizkid fans are convinced he contributed more to the song than he actually did when his part of the song barely lasts 30 seconds. Even Kyla's part of the song is longer.

The only reason they're so insistent on him writing the whole song is because of how big of a hit it was.

not taking anything away from drake. I'm just saying myself and others have heard a version where Wizkid is singing the part Drake ended up singing on the final version. It's hard for me to think of an explanation of that other than Wizkid wrote it and did a reference. I guess the reverse could have happened but idk
