Disagree most of my top 10-20 I would call 10s

The most recent 10s I heard were volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern (2021) and hithisisflume (2019)

I've been debating on chat piles last two records because they're just that good but it takes me years to really decide on giving something a 10. As stupid as it sounds I view 10000 gecs as like a 9.8 and it gets better over time for me too

Some randoms I'd always call 10s include toxicity, demon dayz, kid a, zaba, discovery, and blonde. A moon shaped pool I'm still deciding on lol

Prince had always been so annoying when it came to stuff like this whether it’s limiting the availability of his music, or never clearing samples.

    Fr.

Sampling thing is hypocritical too because bro sampled throughout all of the 90's like it's no one's business, just go through his Whosampled page

Hot take every song on an album doesn’t have to be a 10 for the album to be a 10. A perfect 10 is a symbolic rating and shouldn’t be thought of as the average score of every indivual song

I think this is in a way correct but besides the point

"perfect" music in general straight up doesn't exist

it's always subjective so stop thinking about it like this

if it's what YOU want out of music it's a 10/10, imo

  • I can sonically like all songs on a project, but that doesn't mean it's a 10/10 perfect project.

    Case in point PND1.

I dont know why humans have such an incredibly difficult time understanding that art like music doesnt have an objective rating scale no matter what. In these conversations everyone seems to collectively forget bias exists and is the deciding factor on how we rate any art at all

and Ive been seeing these discussions since I started using the internet 20 years ago, it just never ends or evolves

    I think Flockaveli is

Can't believe I had to scroll through 10 pages to see this album mentioned

Prince not putting his music on youtube for all of those years really f***ed up his visibility to younger audiences man. It's like from 06-18 the only way you were a prince fan is through word of mouth, it's f***ed

I was lucky to have crazed music loving parents lol

I never knew he lost any popularity till I got to college and learned his stuff wasnt available the same way it was to me (CDs and torrents)

really sucks cause it genuinely hurt his popularties longevity

    I think Flockaveli is

and a couple other tapes from him

do yall really listen to a song and be like hmmmm this is a 7/10

  • anyone who says every song of whatever album is flawless is lying to themselves and others for no real reason

if we take 10/10 to mean perfect then obviously no album is actually perfect

most people who call an album a 10/10 don't mean it's a perfect album tho so who really cares

  • Sure that’s fine if you want to listen to music like a sport. Nothing is ever perfect and you can always strive to be better.

Most people listen for enjoyment though and it’s not that deep
