He did some great interviews after the album dropped.
If I remember correctly Jay gave him a playlist to sample from.
10/10 album

yeah I do remember jay saying he hand pick the tracks to be sampled for the record, it’s really cool that jay was so hands on in the making of his most personal and reflective project.
and no ID was the perfect guy for the job of using Jay’s selections to make this wonderful piece of art.
For sure
Sampling really one of the most incredible forms of art I can’t believe some people act like that s*** is stealing
those same people who call sampling stealing go dead silent when you point out all those rock bands that they love straight up stealing riffs, chord progressions and entire songs from older blues/soul artists

I thought these were made for cole and cole told no id give em to jay

Amazing interview if u got some free time
nope, where’d you hear that from?
A little after that, I decided to just do 500 ideas in a short amount of time. It’s like shooting free throws in the gym. I’m going to do this until I have something new. When I got up in the hundreds, I thought I had something new. The first person I actually went to see was J. Cole. I played him them and said, “Who do you think I should give this to?” I wanted a different perspective. We discussed some things, and it led to me hitting Jay-Z up
The playlist thing was later apparently
bro, i've been saying this ever since 4:44 dropped, but nobody listens mannnn
every song here has immaculate sampling, mixed with some very crisp delicious 808s, just
plus, that song with beyoncé, when she sings ON TOP of the her own sample is just goosebumps
i would love to have more goat producers (alchemist, kanye) to do entire albums with other artists these days, there's only goatness that could come from this type of concentrated effort:
DAYTONA (classic)
ALFREDO (classic)
4:44 (freaking classic)
LULU, Alc x Conway (such a classic EP)
anyway, you get the point
Need him to do Kanye and Pusha's next albums.
him and Nas are great together too. No I.D. is the main reason Life Is Good sounded great
the 4:44 titular track sample is crazy cause you would've thought it was from like the 70s but its from a song a random artist released in like 2016, great sample ear and it's one of the best beats on the album

That’s exactly why I want him. His work with 40+ rappers Hov, Common and Nas to make grown man records is elite.

The mixing & mastering on the album is pretty weak in my opinion. The drums dont hit hard enough, the bass is too quiet on some songs, and I feel like Jay Z 's vocals just need to brought up on every trakc
but yeah the beats are immaculate
