And that commercial peak never happens if all of the guys I mentioned did not pave the way for that to be possible

Rap is dead because of Kendrick but he's the only one doing stadiums, something isn't adding up
Post beef we seen Doechii's rise and she's a generational artist who will be here for a while, when was the last time Drake was involved in a career of someone with this amount of talent
Where is Teezo Touchdown right now?

no teezo slander allowed he one of them ones. i’d also give tyler more credit for his come up than drake

we also forget constatnly that the big three all died

X, Pop Smoke, and Juice Wrld all were supposed to be the next gen

    RIP to all 3 but

    • X never made good music in his entire life

    • Pop Smoke very one note, would've gotten stale real fast I think

Juice was brimming with talent, I think his loss is the biggest music wise

Nah Pop was evolving. He was getting into his bag with the melodies and making songs for women and then he was even gonna make Spanish music too. He was half Spanish

Rap does need a breath of fresh air production-wise though. We should not regularly be hearing beats that could’ve made it onto albums that released in 2016

we literally just went through like 3-4 different POPULAR beat styles, if not more, in the last 5 years, what do niggas be wanting? I never hear what people want, just complaints

we got rage, sexy drill, bedroom pop rap to name a few

I just don’t know what niggas be wanting more of, what other genres are doing that after decades of repeatedly shifting in the same time spans other than rap. we all need to BREATH and just appreciate where we at right now and what we’ve gotten. we keep tryna move on to the next thing every time instead of enjoying right now until we’ll eventually hit a wall

And even across the different biggest sounds, the patterns are still obviously based on 2010s ATL trap

Rage and sexy drill are basically just variations of the trap production style though. The producers literally use most of the same drum sounds

Sure they’re “different”, but tonally and stylistically they’re from the same world

A 2016 rap beat does not sound anything like a 2006 rap beat

A 2006 rap beat does not sound anything like a 1996 rap beat

A 1996 rap beat does not sound anything like a 1986 rap beat

I can name you so many songs on the most popular rap albums of 2025 that would’ve not sounded out of place whatsoever on a 2016 rap album. That’s a problem

Dont get me wrong , most my fave rap albums had big crossover success and appeal. But from just an enjoyer of the music i dont see how if it did become less mainstream successful its bad
