i kinda want him as silver surfer or ghost rider or something but he's done versions of both of those already

He could bring that Morpheus flair to Wonder Man or someone like that

stuff like men and babadook where everything in the film is a metaphor for grief or other abstract societal concepts

there's some great movies that fit that bill but the style has kinda killed proper horror and they all just seem the same at this point

Werner Herzog's Nosferatu goes so hard. I still need to see the original. hyped for this

Love it, the location is op makes everything so spooky, my only nit pick is I prefer a badass van helsing

Eggers is the exception. He does it really well and you can tell he actually likes the genre.

very interesting. ngl babadook, altho is a ‘metaphor for grief’ definitely felt like a ‘proper horror’ movie in terms of typical horror techniques they used, any elaboration on the difference between proper horror and elevated horror?

It’s more about intent and effect than technique. It’s a know it when you see it sort of a thing. The ultimate example I’d say is The Blackcoat’s Daughter. This jokey review of it I think makes the point pretty well lol.
