Easily the best horror cinematic experience I’ve had with Dolby Atmos and all, sound design was impeccable

had my first watch in dolby and did round 2 again this saturday, the sound design is one of the standout parts of the film to me

I love when you hear the bats screech & echo across the castle, after the count takes his contract & locks hoult in for another night. incredible little moment

this was the first time I've gone to rewatch something again since Furiousa last year, I've been indifferent to all the bigger releases lately but this restored the feeling for me

feel like grabbing and shaking all the folks I see online downplaying how good this was. I never let hyperbole get to me when gassing a film up but we finally got some good f***ing food with this. It's personal for me tho, have big soft spot for anything authentically gothic

Hope his next film is set in a more contemporary era/setting, flex outside the comfort zone a bit – I don’t think he’ll ever stop making period pieces, but lets get 1900s with it

but I wouldn’t mind another literary adaptation

He said he'd never do a contemporary film.

Oh wow, I respect it. He’s still very young as far as directors go, we’ll see. Did he say what his cutoff was?

Dafoe is the living GOAT btw, he’s gotta be. I understand Denzel but Dafoe is in like his third prime

Orlock's minion stole the show for me. He was in the running to be the Prince of Rats and took one for the team Eggers direction always shines when it's one person getting the floor to freak out.

Oh wow, I respect it. He’s still very young as far as directors go, we’ll see. Did he say what his cutoff was?

He said in a recent interview, and I'm paraphrasing:

"I hate the thought of me directing a scene with a cellphone in it..."

His reasoning was that for him film is medium of pure escapism. He is already living a contemporary life, so he doesn't wanna bring that into his filmmaking as well.

Based on interviews I've seen of him, I lowkey think dude is seriously into occultism and believes in magic/spirits in his personal life etc. He doesn't wanna outright say it because I think Hollywood might brand him as a weirdo.

  • this was so boring man, beautifully shot but boring

eggers has stagnated as a director, this felt like an amalgamation of all his previous films but with worse dialogue

  • dafoe, hoult and corin were great

my mans ATJ didn’t have much to work with
