Can I ask what you do professionally in the creative industry?

I gotta ask because, I'm not listening to anyone's take on AI being a cancerous threat unless they make their living in a creative field.

Need to separate those opinions that I can take seriously, from the kids who think AI is the new trendy thing to s*** on

Worked for years as a visual designer and illustrator at different creative studios. I don't know any designers worth their salt who are sweating this.

There's a reason it's called "machine learning" and not "machine inventing." It's just biting what humans feed it and spitting it back at us really fast. Someone else mentioned how AI can now copy a Picasso painting.. yeah, it can bite other existing art, how does that threaten an artist who is creating new original ideas?

The moment people stop feeding the internet with content, ChatGPT dies

Do you know how company logos used to look in the 1970s? And how they look today?

If people stopped designing logos in the '70s and only started using ChatGPT from that point forward, logos would still look like the style of the '70s. Design will always require emotional feedback and a sentient mind to push things forward

im a recording engineer but i don’t really see how that matters - for all the designers you say aren’t worried about it i’ve seen just as many showing concern. it sounds like you’re just in circles that don’t really care about it

I just can’t imagine seeing how corporatized media is becoming and supporting anything that would make it easier for suits to automate s*** without a human element…even if human artists aren’t completely gone there’s still a detrimental effect

Why is that concerning? Beyond jobs being lost, which banning ChatGPT is obviously not the solution to.

Why is that concerning beyond jobs being lost that’s why it’s concerning!!!

Italy didn't ban ChatGPT out of concern for working class jobs. And banning ChatGPT will not protect the working class from automation.

I legit have been swamped in work at uni lately and usually don’t GPT my way out of it unless as a starting point on some occasions. It’s a great tool when you just need someone else to take the wheel for a second

I’ve found it to be incorrect or useless on several other occasions so I’m not fully behind it but it IS helpful

Sure use ChatGPT for bullshit required classes like history and algebra that you not gon need as a doctor but I don’t wanna hear that my doctor doesn’t know how to cut up a spleen properly cause he passed using an exam written by AIs

If I'm in a circle that doesn't care about it, that means our livelihood is not threatened by it

I'm the exact target demo your post was about - an artist relying on their creative products for a living, facing a supposed potential threat by AI. Just sharing my experience and understanding

If you know just as many pro designers who disagree with me, I'd be interested to see them post their opinions, since they're the only people qualified to give an opinion on this I can take seriously (people who have their livelihood at risk, not just people talking about other peoples livelihood at risk)

Right now ChatGPT is still at the level of a tool that isn't actually inventing s***

You should know that a large reason why there is so much hype around ai is because they're working on ai that will learn to think like humans and this be able to have opinions on art. This means that they could eventually generate original art and it might be very easy to do so, at that point there would be no reason to pay artists for their work

In the distant future it could be possible to create entire shows/movies with a combination of ai and curating. This could be the death of entire industries as people could create whatever art they want with a series of ai tools
