Truly crazy how Kanye's music fell off a f***in cliff after Yeezus while Cole and Mac went on to get better

In retrospect they had nowhere to go but up. R.I.P mac and respect to Cole. Ye streak is unparalleled aint. I way he could’ve gotten better than that

You could argue that Yeezus was the beginning of his decline lyrically

Truly one last powerful artistic shout before he whimpered out and decided sensational attention w**** antics is more important than the music.

I think his decline is due to a mixture of things, he lost his laser like focus. The TLOP era was one of the most directionless rollouts of all time

    yeezus and watching movies

I think he realized that he wasn't gonna be able to top Yeezus in terms of presentation, themes, and overall energy so he threw whatever he could onto the board and went with whatever stuck even if it was all over the place

"But watch who you bring home
They see a black man with a white woman
At the top floor, they gone come to kill King Kong
    Middle America packed in
Came to see him and his black kin
My homie was number one draft pick
They still burned his jersey in Akron
If I don't get ran out by Catholics
    Here come some conservative Baptists
    Saying he overreacting
Like them black kids in Chiraq b****"

"I'll move my family out the country
So you can't see where I stay
So go and grab the reporters
So I can smash their recorders
See, they'll confuse us with some bullshit
    Like the New World Order
    Meanwhile the DEA
    Teamed up with the CCA
    They tryna lock niggas up
    They tryna make new slaves
See, that's that privately owned prison
    Get your peace today
They prolly all in the Hamptons
    Braggin' 'bout what they made"

The way songs like Blood On The Leaves was structured was insane. Every time I thought Blood On The Leaves would end there would be a new part / beat switch up,

I'm In It reveling in excess and raunchyness to the point where it's camp, etc.

Idk it's some gems in there to me lmao

Yeezus used to be my heralded favorite but after listening to Born Sinner and Watching Movies more, I can see the differences in each artists talent and approach to creating an album. I think Yeezus lacks what Born Sinner and Watching Movies have which is more fleshed out, captivating music and lyrically more diverse elements to choose from.

Yeezus has the strength of being culturally significant and Ye truly did something with his approach to the album, but I wish we got the original non-stripped down version. S*** like Bound 1. He was ahead of his time tho by shortening the album, all the young niggas at the time were still making 1hr+ albums.

If I was to rerank it, I’d go Born Sinner, Watching Movies, and Yeezus. When I first listened in 2013, it was Yeezus, Born Sinner, Watching Movies

Born Sinner is absolutely boring btw

  • Jun 18, 2023

Cole and Mac have never made an album even approaching Yeezus

Why is this crazy lol? Yeezus was Kanye's 6th solo album and he was 10+ years into his career. Usually artists aren't even good for that long

  • Jun 18, 2023

I love watching movies moreso for its context and what it meant for Mac Miller's discography. but its a strong album on its own too

  • Jun 18, 2023

    Easily yeezus

  • Jun 18, 2023

But all 3 are masterpieces imo

Best day of releases in my entire life

This pales in comparison to his bars on TCD/LR/MBDTF imo but I have some newfound respect for Yeezus lyrics

You could argue that Yeezus was the beginning of his decline lyrically

You can also argue it's the greatest work of minimalist lyricism ever too. Quotables for days

Dawg, what is "minimalist lyricism". Like what other albums you comparing Yeezus to in terms of this?
