They won't have the same impact, because it'll be used like a feature than being it's standalone thing.

    Same thing with YouTube Shorts.

I think that's why Reels and Shorts were created in the first place. To keep people engaged on IG and YouTube overall than go to TikTok for short form vids.

If TikTok is banned, advertisers will shift their money they originally spent on TikTok over to Reels and Shorts instead, making TikTok creators have to move over to those platform.

    It’s not done yet

Gotta go through the Senate, then the president has to sign it, then ByteDance has to sell it within a certain amount of time and if they don’t, THEN TikTok will be banned

    Im already hooked on shorts

Punk? Woah there no need for hostilities

I’m just pointing out that this could pass the senate because 150 House Democrats voted to pass this bill. They need 60 votes for it to pass the Senate and there is a chance that they will pass it as well

Dudes just be hostile to maintain some weird character they’ve built on this random website

This still doesn’t mean anything. This is just to approve the request for tiktok to divest within 6 months. After 6 months is when it will be banned if they don’t sale. So for now, we still have tiktok in US until at least September/October

    Better than nothing.

It’s not better than anything. They’re literally only doing this to tiktok and it’s legit censorship. To demand this specific company to not be at least 20% owned by Chinese investors is so inconsistent. Especially when you have other major companies in USA owned by Chinese investors

It still has to pass Senate which is likely

Biden saying he’ll sign it is funny when last month he made an account for his campaign

I think ultimately it will sell but like to some company with ties to China that’s based in the US

I could honestly see them standing firm like they did with UMG. The public outcry will be too much

The US government will likely probe any company TikTok is sold to.

Another chinse phone company, Huawei, was few years ago at one point bigger than Samsung globally. Because of fear of ties to the Chinese government just like TikTok today, US put also severe sanctions on them and any US company that has even remote business with them gets banned as well. As a result Huwaei's phone business collapsed almost overnight.

in terms of content consumption, this is like getting the population hooked on coca cola (tiktok), banning it, but keeping pepsi and RC cola (Ig reels, youtube shorts) available in every store

UMG will wanna feast off audiovisuals certainly amongst such a uniquely audio-visually driven generation
