In this particular case it's really just a house that was left to the woman from her mother's will. She was simply selling the home lol that's so common especially in NYC. Which is unfortunate because I feel it's always important to keep the family home, but aye brownstones (for example) sell for buku.

My cousin just did the same with her mother's home last year. We all argued that it'd be best to keep a Brooklyn brownstone because it's value will likely keep growing. But somebody made an offer of $9M...needless to say she retired to Ft Lauderdale after the sale was complete lol

In NYC it's just 30 days. In NJ it's 30 years, and the squatter still has to pay property taxes for five of those years. AND they gotta have a proof of a title that confirms the occupancy of 30 years.

You don't really hear much about people having issues with squatters in NJ lol honestly if a squatter is able to do all that over 30 years then s*** they might as well own the property
