Re reading the Odyssey and The Iliad and then moving on to the Aeneid. Trying to get into more roman lit if I have the time
Almost done reading Blood Meridian for the first time. Probably gonna start Night Train by Martin Amis next.
Just finished Blood Meridian for the first time also. What'd you think of it?
The Iliad, The Cossacks, The Brothers Karamazov, Native Son
So excited to do some leisure reading
@STUFF was New Waves any good? That synopsis has me hooked ngl

I liked it! I’d read The Road and All the Pretty Horses before but this one takes the cake off prose alone. I almost want to read it again. Did you get the epilogue? It’s not as open-ended as the ending proper so if you’ve been pondering it you should look it up. Also, I was watching this college professor give a lecture about it on YouTube and had totally missed that the kid the man shoots towards the end before he gets to town is likely the grandson of the traveler from the story the judge tells them all in one of the campfire scenes!

Did you notice that the words “blue” and “alien” showed up a lot?

Loved the epilogue, honestly one of my favorite parts of the book. I really loved how the book gives off a "cosmic" feeling if that makes sense, very cosmic and cyclical. I think that ties into the "alien" and "blue" showing up so much

What do you make of the man dying off-screen?
Reading American Tabloid rn. Second Ellroy book in quarantine (first was LA Confidential). Loving it. Fictional story built around nonfictional events and ties to major players of late 50s and early 60s like the Kennedy Brothers, J Edgar Hoover, Hoffa, Hughes, CIA, FBI and Castro.

Making a goodreads account to finally keep track of what I’m reading
First up is Go Tell It on the Mountain by the great James Baldwin
Yo, real talk, is there anything more nostalgic than this man’s voice?
I always feel waves of warmth and comfort the instant I hear his dulcet tones.

How was it?
How was it?
Pretty heavy material, but I like Baldwin’s writing style. Basically the struggle of a man with his actions, family and faith
been reading a bunch of cool revolutionary black texts from a google doc, shtt's dope
