He did get more vulnerable on here than anything I’ve heard from him

I was so mad at this on my first listen and I had to bring up genius lyrics to actually hear him but I’m ok with it on repeated listens tbh

glad to know im not the only one who thinks he should get on the boards full time and not rap as much

I feel like half the people that listen to him just want him to lock in w someone dope and produce a whole album for them

His production has grown so much and his rapping just hasn't. It was fine around Veteran but yeah time to start doing collab projects with rappers

You throw a few more features on this album (Danny Brown, Ghais Guevara, Redveil just to name a few he has been linked to) and it might be his best work. The lyrics hold it back

His rapping isn’t nearly as bad as yall making it out to be and this album is way more personal than his last few albums it’s just that mainstream rapping in general isn’t as lyrics heavy as 2 decades ago and the sooner we accept that the less critical we gon be of people like jpegmafia and travis scott

It’s not that bad it’s just never a standout. You could replace it with a great rapper and some of the songs would be 2x better. Like you never walk away from any of his songs like “damn jpeg killed that verse”, most of the time his rapping is just passable

Feel like AMHAC and Veteran were lyrically his most immature and annoying (AMHAC still a personal classic tho)

LP was all about the atmospheric production imo like I can’t remember specific lyrics off top but I think it wasn’t as prickly as Veteran yet it was all filler bars imo like not a lot going on thematically but it isn’t offensive

Here he explored different concepts and themes especially on that final stretch that are like a breath of fresh air in peggy’s music

It's not but the production is so good that the bland lyrics kinda stand out. Ironic that you mention Travis cause that's how I felt about Utopia. Sure those two never rapped like Kendrick Lamar but as the production advances the lyrics don't and it just draws more attention to it

I love the album don't get me wrong just something so good means the flaws stand out more

Yeah I can understand that but personally I got that feeling from 2 tracks on this album
either on or off d**** and the outro track like I had to reflect on that so I feel like it’s definitely an improvement lyrically

Actually that’s why I mentioned Travis because it was a common complaint about UTOPIA and you can’t just invalidate it cuz he really be saying anything on some of these tracks but I accepted that it is his style and I can’t think of any mainstream artists that give u a perfect full package like that except maybe Kendrick and old Kanye so I just stopped expecting that package from anyone else until further notice lol

Also on Scaring the Hoes I feel like he actually brought down those songs with some of his verses, I’ll never forgive what he did on Tell Me Where To Go

I mean his peers are often far above him when it comes to rapping--id say the only person that has worse lyrics is denzel curry--and among those peers its never been that we can all kick back and not care about raps. everyone around him brings heat when he just doesn't. it doesnt make sense to compare him to mainstream rappers from 20 years ago (??) because he doesnt work at the mainstream level (without getting into another 'what is mainstream' debate)

As a Lupe and Kendrick stan I like Jpegmafia's rapping for the most part and he does have songs where I felt like he kilt the verse. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Honestly. But Peggy unlike Travis actually produces like 95 percent of his stuff counting real contributions from people (features, the guitarist, etc) I feel like people are harder on him because of this, like he's putting his level up points in a different category.

That said I love his trolling Twitter gun bar raps & I'm glad he got vulnerable in a way he never has in this last phase here (we gotta talk about the last song more fr) but yeah like Jpeg the poster said his production advances & the content / flows are kinda lagging & I can see why that'd be glaring for people

I think his pop melodic stuff has always out shone his rapping but he never does it. There's like a tiny glimpse at the end of either on or off d**** that was about to go crazy and he cuts it off so annoying LOL

AHMAC is his best project cause he gels that s*** so well

I’m with you but I think it sticks out because it has the problem of being memorable but not that great if that makes sense. Someone like Ken Carson doesn’t get any flack for his lack of lyrics even though he’s 100x worse than JPEG because his raps are literally just background music majority of the time and one in a while he’ll pop out with a fly fashion bar. While JPEG is super in your face but also half baked

Don’t get it twisted though Veteran and AMHAC both have incredible rapping on them
