very excited for the new track
Wow, I respect YG for producing enough goods, because I've just checked ktown4u, site where they have fanclub deals with big discounts and they still have Season Greetings and sold like 40000 while TWICE sold out with 1300 before the release.
i'm not sure how to organize my thoughts on sophies death, so i'll try to type it out as i write. if perhaps youre reading this, and read everything, i imagine the pieces i might share individually will come together at the end to provide an better understanding of what i'm saying (probably not tbh.) -. i know my bullshit is always all over the place.
first thought in relation to kpop, i hate that the kpop world only had 1 direct credit for sophie w the itzy track.
immediately, i felt the loss and thought about how enthralled i was in the early 10's w ...that whole world of sophie. i posted on my ig about my first time i heard her so u can go there if u care but in short, it threw me the f*** off and i loved it. this was when pc world was f***ing everything. before gfoty was annoying af and charli was name dropping them on twitter. it was just this new s*** spreading on soundcloud and we were f***ing loving it. and as the years progressed, i got more and more into kpop and started to not keep up with really anything else. but in passing, i would hear of new collaborations and works and i was always surprised how sophie and pc music were weaving themselves into the universe of pop. with sophie, i was kinda surprised how much adulation she got as she kinda...didn't...release a lot compared to everyone else. ag cook on the other hand had his fingerprints on everything. plus, sophie was imo more out there at the time. in a way, while the rest of pc music were taking pop and twisting it by adding new elements to it, sophie on the other hand was taking something foreign and new and adding pop elements to that.
really as more time went on, pc music and sophie almost felt dated to me . so as talk about charli and pc music artists working together got around, i was like "thats old news". i already had seen charli by that point and thought she would peak w superlove (and later, commercially, boom clap) lol. it didnt interest me cause i was super into kpop.
to kinda epitomize how divorced i was from them, in 2016, one of my favorite people/sites chris/gorilla vs bear were doing a showcare for sxsw that would feature sophie and charli performing their ep together for the first time ever. i always tried to go to gorilla vs bear shows. chris was always into finding s*** early. like he brought down grimes before she was tumblr famous grimes. his shows NEVER disappointed. i had to ask off for work and could only get enough days off to go to one show. The sophie x charli show was on thursday, but i said no, i'm going to go watch mamamoo, zion t and dean on wednesday instead.
And so i did.
as distant as i felt from really most of western pop, the truth is that SO MUCH of what i have LOVED from kpop in the years since sophie's debut can be traced and followed back to Sophie. and you can see it today with the producers and writers that worked and were friends with her that are mourning her death. there are sophie's fingerprints all over the pop universe that we can find and match to her, but there's even more that we can't trace but know is there. sophie provided a new way of looking at pop, and others took her new approach and found new ways to build on top of that. the abrasiveness. the over sweetening of the pop elements. like off the top of my head, when u hear Nonstop, what do you hear? today, wave racer is talking about sophie's influence as he has in the past. and when you play OEC Girl Front, it's not JUST that they used the same sample. so many artist can use the same sample and still not sound like the same song.
trying to explain sophie's influence right now is like i have a huge entangled ball of string in my front of me, and im trying to dictate to you how to untangle it. ultimately, i think sophie's influence in pop is undeniable and massive. there are so many people that got influenced by listening to her music, and listening to people that were influenced by her, or that actually worked with her, or even not even shared a collaboration credit w her, but just spoke w her about ideas that they applied to their work. all of these people provide new ways to think about how pop can work, and such ideas and perspective certainly has been applied to the world of kpop.
so with that, i thank Sophie for everything she did, as ive enjoyed a world of pop music that most certainly would sound different without her influence.
welp
the blackp*rk concert was today
and .....
tbh im not trying to be negative anymore
so....thats that on that.

edit: need to resave these s***s as pngs lmao
but from a more serious standpoint, these virtual concerts are just not worth the money. each one has their own issues, but time and again, they just seem flat. no energy. thats why its even more upsetting to me that theyre spending so much money to make those new special effect stages/ arenas or whatever.
i know we want to support our faves but for for likely less effort, give me something physical to buy and i'll likely be happier

I generally agree but it's very understandable as to why they do them, they need to make up the large amount of money lost as a result of covid and it's partly made via these concerts.
Seen my girls on the red carpet. Those outfits look terrible 😩 can the Twice Japan team style them plz

I honestly was ready to buy subsctiption to watch BP, because I really enjoyed Pretty Savage on Corden, and I like their music also the fact that they use live band.
But the thing that stop me in the end is that I couldn't even watch it again on my own in any given time, instead I should wait for them to re-air it and then it's just gone. I dunno, maybe they plan on releasing it on physical but anyway people who payed for subscription shouldn't pay twice.
I'm puzzled, why can't they just invite 1000 people and test them beforehand, so there will be audience at the show.
