Anyway, its commom to miss the boat w kpop cause you want to fit it into its assumed space within the grand puzzle of music of the world, and it just simply does not fit. Not only does it not fit, its not even a damn puzzle piece.
With. That. Said- there is absolute magic in kpop just as there is in honestly any other subset of music.
This focus on needing an artist to write their own music is misguided imo. I say that as someone who idolized singer songwriters to the nth degree. No one could be higher. Its why for a long time i detested pop music, and even kpop (though not as much by the time i got to it).
But i guess its like a beautiful house. Most often, you won't know who built or designed every single aspect, but you can appreciate it for simply what it is right in front of you.
Truthfully, most groups or artists just don't matter to me that much. They are really just vessels for the arranger, writer and producer. It's the same reason why while one of my favorite artist of all time is about to release new music, im sad af because theyre working with people who consistently work on songs i absolutely HATE.
I'm not saying theres not value in making your own s***--there is. But a beautiful song is a beautiful song. Whether it took ten or one person to craft it, the beauty in the skill to make it what it is exists there regardless.
Also i think most would be surprised how similar western and korean music industries are. The difference is western lowkey simply lies more about what it presents you and acts like it doesnt. Lemme submit this s*** before i lose it
Also as much as we compIain and critique, kpop is as big as its ever been in a manner no one could imagine. Theyre doing fine w/o our recommendations
Blinks really praising this Rose album like they ain’t been working on her solo stuff for 3 years and only came up with two songs and two instrumentals.
plus it’s clear she has minimal writing on them at best.
KPop having this big commercial boom rn and still don’t have an artist that can put out material written and produced by the artist that’s on the level of 2021 Hikaru Utada (in her 22nd year as well).
!https://youtu.be/0Uhh62MUEicKorean music not gonna advance until they get past these slave driver record execs and actually make quality music that isn’t all wrote and produced by the one lame record company guy (looking at you and your outdated 2010’s beat drops, TEDDY.).
I don't have much kpop bands as reference, only BP, TWICE and maybe Loona, but considering them, I think that this is YG's approach towards everything BP. They try to squeeze every last drop of hype from Blackpink, so obviously they are not going to give Rose 10 tracks, even though I'm sure they have enough finance so even if she is not a prolific writer, they can still make some songs after working with her. Again, about using only Teddy for music, I think they don't want to mess up the formula, and they are very afraid that those 120 000 of people who preordered Rose Solo would put it on and hear something very unlike Blackpink's material.
They released The Album with 7 tracks when Twice drops mini albums with as much tracks like every year.
On topic of song writing, in Twice there number of songs where member wrote them. I think IU writes some material just by herself as well as Ye-Rin Baek writes all of her lyrics plus involved in producing.
So if we view bands as assets then YG does a perfect job and probably will switch it up to atleast Twice model, after all they were the once who paid for girl's training and found them in a first place.
I did not expect Sakura to stay in Korea let alone go to to Bighit of all companies
somehow this might be the most shocking news in kpop of 2021 thus far
