anyway, the thing is i think the notion of "crossing over" and even "mainstream" is outdated

since the start of this past decade, every year in a growing degree has demonstrated that in all aspects of life, you can be plugged in precisely what, and more often than not, only what you care for. i think kpop alone has demonstrated this, and even further with BTS. like how can a worldwide multi-night stadium tour be supported for an act that by traditional standards lacks so much mainstream support? and it's not even with kpop. like the actual concept of "top 40" is a joke, because so many of the actual most popular and listened to songs in the world are never seen in the "top 40".

at this point, all i ever really care about now is that a group or artist is supported enough by the niche to continue working.
