It’s kinda crazy how I always thought Eminem was the leader of D12 but he really wasn’t

I mean I guess he kinda became that once he blew up and put them on his label and got all the producers and funding and stuff

I imagine that for Em, it was a “thank you” to Proof and some of the people who treated him as an equal despite his differences and held him down when he was broke. And him funding and putting on his friends was a good way to give them success in a productive way that wasn’t just him throwing money away.

Problem was though, there was a gap in talent, skill and charisma within the group, which is why D12 ultimately couldn’t hold up without Ems stimulus. Proof was just getting his foot in the door when he died and that took away the only real chance they had at a successful direction outside of Em. The only other member of D12 who had any sort of success was Denaun/Kon Artis, and that’s because he produced several hits like P.I.M.P.

    True but also

Devils night was a great album . That album is a notable W in em’s catalog and a lasting legacy for all of the other members

D12 world was not as good but wasn’t awful either, had some good tracks

Devils Night was a good album. You could tell Em was way more involved in that album then D12 World. Couldn’t really go wrong with Prime Em and multiple Dre beats when he was at the top of his game. It was an easy layup.

I didn’t really listen to rap like that before HS. I knew of Eminem in middle school obviously though. Just like how I knew about Kanye and Lil Wayne when I was a little kid. The impact was undeniable culturally.

My real introduction to rap is funny actually. I was hanging out with this circle of gamer dweebs. I didn’t really…fit but being an autistic kid growing up, I was just looking for any sense of normalcy and belonging. I heard one of Ems songs and they snorted in my face and gave me the “all rap is crap without the C” talk.

I disagreed with their dismissive attitude and dug deeper into it.

I stopped hanging out with them in 9th grade and found the group of people that would be my friends to this day.
