In theory you can look em up but idk. I do not care at all about not knowing what I’m hearing sometimes it better to not know
Didn’t realize how h**** one of my fav Latin artists was and to an extent I wish I didn’t

idk it’d be like watching a non-english film without subtitles. like I can gather context from the acting and music but I’d have a better time knowing whats being said.

    very 80’s

He’s the equivalent to Argentinian Prince production wise

His songs are all anti government anti authoritarian s*** too but a lot of that goes over my head even knowing the language

It’s just a not fun hearing a song, with lyrics, and not being able to appreciate them.

a whole aspect of the music going over my head because of my stupid american brain.

id rather understand all the lyrics too

but you think that makes the whole listening experince not even worth it?

I find it to be different but i understand what you mean. Watching a movie with the sound off can be just as engaging and enjoyable if the movie is good. Movies are a visual medium.

So why isn’t it the same for music. I love city pop stuff. No f***ing idea what they are saying but it sounds nice. Music is an auditory medium.

..almost? Idk, it pulls my attention out of the music.

My hot take. Some of his production is miles better actually. Like leaps and bounds as far as interesting stuff and nice mixing

Prince was likely a better musician tho

Idk I’m all a***ytical about music and I listen to it in layers. Not being able to decipher the most dominant part of the music just makes it hard to appreciate the rest.

Prince had really really good and interesting production in the revolution days. Like a whole signature style that’s synonymous with him and helped define the 80’s.

    but 90’s Prince.. good god.

except its vastly different because music isnt focused on narratives like that

and even when the lyrics are important theres still so many other things that are worth hearing

plus a lot of the time you can still tell what a song is about. like if you know its just a love song ballad you can still connect with much of the emotion and what its saying without understanding the words

To me tho if you’re a***ytical about it not knowing the lyrics almost makes it better. You can really just pay it no mind beyond the vocal performance and it just becomes another layer of the production

So especially if the production is fantastic why does it matter. Cocteau twins make gibberish music. It’s f***ing phenomenal tho

also you can get pretty good translations nowadays if thats something you need

sure you dont understand it as you hear it but you still remember which song is about which thing and in a way have a connection with whats being sung about. thats happened with my and a lot of my top favorites of other languages

A narrative is there regardless though.

The production is generally built around the vocals. I just rather listen to music where I can appreciate all parts of it.

I mean going back to Cocteau twins

she is singing lyrics and there is a narrative in theory but you would never know. And it’s English. It’s no diff than a foreign language album experience and it doesn’t really take away from the music being great

The vocals are just another layer of production

production generally built around the vocals, maybe. but built around the lyrics themselves? i think not

I mean I can’t really argue against you or RVI’s logic. I’m just saying how my brain works and how I consume music.

    I don’t know!!!
