@Extraterrestrial @Echiham i went into the bookexpecting absurdism and a few other things because of what ET said. Meursault is clearly a nihilist and i think if there's an actual meaning/lesson from the book it's Camus shaming and condemning him and anyone like him (anti hero, loner, nihilist, directionless individuals). I didn't know if i was supposed to pardon him or feel sympathy for him but regardless i will and any reader i think will judge him which is the point of the entire book. Us the reader will attach meaning and look for answers throughout the book and especially towards the end of the second act after Meursault has committed a murder, even if Meursault thinks it's meaningless and insignificant. I think a redundant and too simplistic way to look at the book is to say Camus is saying life is meaningless therefore morality and principles can be left behind but i think he's just saying life has no objective meaning which can lead to a lack of morals in certain personalities. I think through the story itself he highlights people will regardless attach meaning to life and the choices we make and that morality and principles will have influence on how 1 person acts and responds to situations in life.

TLDR: meaning and morals are all subjective but that doesn't make them non existent or less important
