It's a hot take, I don't think you need to be playing actual instruments, but at least have a group with roles (producer, drummer, lead singer). It just show's discipline and dedication to your vision/craft.

The gimmick worked when Drake was commercially running things but when it was clear who the “streets” were really rocking with by the end of the beef, he refused to adjust his gimmick because he’s a stan of Drake and the gimmick just lost all its character.
As I said, a gimmick not gonna work if it’s conditional. You have to commit to the gimmick fully. He committed to an artist and it backfired.
