The majority of music is connected in some way regardless of genre
Like a lot of Hip-Hop is rooted in Funk, Jazz and Rhythm and Blues
And country for example is an Americanized version of folk (originally)
And rock and roll was just an appropriated white washed version of rhythm and blues that didn’t start to find its own identity until the mid 60s
nitpicking but still more of an identity in the 50s for rock i think. main thing is stuff like the energy and mix of country elements with the rhythm and blues. Chuck Berry kind of a world away from the rhythm and blues world already with his guitar s*** and people calling him a black hillbilly
