im 27. learning piano for the first time. its still fun idc if i wont be the best or whatever. its just a fun hobby and feels rewarding.

yeah i get that. i dont really like "sucking" at things. i wanna become really good really fast. but i also just enjoy trying new things even if it goes away at some point. the journey was fun.

i knew id never become an f1 driver but i did win a few local events, became an instructor, got some recognition in local circles and got to meet so many cool people, some of which are like my best friends now, some helped me get jobs or helped my friends in their careers. i dont even really track cars anymore but im still part of that community even if i never had a chance of being the pinnacle.

the mentality you go in for learning an instrument as an adult/late teenager is gonna come from a diff place, u prolly come in just wanting to find some enjoyment/escapism and set small goals

ironically it's why if ur an adult or older you fly through and become capable/alright really fast, most of my best pupils are all people who started with me or a teacher when they were 16-17 onwards

yeah but i mean who cares. if you having fun thats fine yknow. its about your goals and what makes you happy. not comparing yourself to something that is pretty incomparable (even if you started at 3 years old).
