Explain this to me
You decide to listen to an album
You walk over here
And then what? What's the first thing you do?
Break it down step by step
Well first I need to warm up the amp, which takes 20-30 mins. Then I decide whether I wanna listen to a CD or apple music, and I flip the input switch on the DAC accordingly. Then I put my headphones on and sit in my bed or on my chair and listen.
That good enough for you, nosy?

U have to preheat it?
that's insane
Yea a lil bit but I like the ritual
I usually get home from work, turn it on to let it warm up, eat dinner and watch tv, and by the time I'm done with that it's ready to go
I knew that actually kinda my guitar teacher had an amp like that

is the sound quality actually better
U have to preheat it?
Technically it's functional after 30 seconds to a few minutes, tubes are weird and the sound doesn't fully stabilize until the heat has evened out, which takes 20-30 minutes
For the tube amps yeah
Solid state is instant.
this is so autistic but I also genuinely respect it so much as a hobby

i had an old tube tv that you put where the little storage thing inbetween seats in the front seat of a car goes and if you had a special adapter for a cigarette outlet you could power it. the screen was smaller than a modern iphone.
it was in black and white and it had warm up for 30 minutes before it turned to colour.
had a built in vhs player and i used to plug my n64 into it when my fam went on road trips as a kid

ur tube amps aren't hot.... STONE F***ING COLD.... come on guys!!! f*** me

is the sound quality actually better
I mean, with tubes you're actually kind of intentionally harming the sound quality by adding harmonic distortion that sounds good
but yeah it sounds much better than a pair of bluetooth headphones
You can go for maximum sound quality with a really nice solid state amp and super accurate headphones, but everytime i've demoed those it's just felt like I'm listening to some sort of lab test. cool, but not very musical
is the sound quality actually better
I feel like there's no way all this stuff makes a thousands of dollars difference
But it's probably worth it just as an interest/niche hobby

the ritual of building up and waiting to listen might be hard... anticipation and all that nonsense

wait are these tube amps the same as guitars/live synths?

i like the idea that the sound changes because of the physical elements of the tube and that rangy has all these different tubes with different effects
its sounds neat
i also know i woudl never be able to tell the differnce
wait are these tube amps the same as guitars/live synths?
same tech yeah
obviously a bit different for the specific application (headphones vs loadspeakers vs synths vs guitar amps) but it's the same idea

wake up babe.... we're listening to ICEMAN on the chilly tube
