How did they fall off before 2016
oh yeah i've been blackpilled
i suppose ive been to
yeah i mean idk where i really stand with it all.
like in one way, i hated pop music growing up so i dont look back fondly to britney spears and s***. nowadays it's common for me to never have heard the #1 song on billboard with the way s***s been gamed and radio's not a factor in finding music anymore.
and some of the house/techno tracks i hear are some of the best s*** i've ever heard
so i do think there's plenty of great music out there.
but when i look at the industry in general and what's popular in mainstream culture, it's hard for me to not think s***s gone downhill. fake viral marketing, bloated albums with shortened songs, lazy samples, lack of new stars, etc.
yeah i think a lot of those things are s***ty and annoying but just a more modern and different form of things in the past. old music industry stuff always had some total bullshit like that too, like labels basically controlling who becomes a star, suppressing their true creative output, packing albums full of bullshit covers in the 60s, stuff like that, there's probably a sweet spot in time where this stuff was the least annoying/detrimental but im not sure when it would be
the house/techno world is a good example of how more niche scenes and genres can be more mainstream now than they were in the past. not saying it was small in the past (like pre 2000s). but in a way i feel like a subculture with so many dedicated fans like that might as well be mainstream. maybe "mainstream" is the wrong word but its gotta be worth something how you can go to huge festivals with tends of thousands of people. there is some cultural relevance without charting on billboard, etc. that previous 'underground' music wasn't able to achieve except in rarer cases
