You definitely are to some degree, but diminishing returns on headphones start at a much higher price than it does with IEMs, and diminishing returns on speakers starts at a much higher price than it does with headphones

Like engineering-wise there's only so much you can do with small drivers and chasis, but as the drivers and chasis get bigger (earbuds -> IEMs -> headphones -> speakers), you have more s*** you can actually improve

Think about it like this: Some people buy/build really nice RCA cars, but no matter what you do, you can never make a really nice RCA car into a really nice Go-Kart. And you can never make a really nice Go-Kart into an Italian supercar

but yes 2500 is absurd. the most I ever spent on over-ear headphones was $450 years back, and those are the ones I posted a few pages ago that are on sale for $80ish now. Most of my headphones are probably worth like $250-$350 tops

My IEMs are way nicer, but I just really like my over-ear headphones so I don't feel compelled to buy another pair until I'm ready to go balls deep on some real pimp s***.

As far as headphones go

ZMF Atrium & Sennheiser HD800S are the only ones I know for certain that I'd like to own at some point, but both are so expensive that it's hard to actually pull the trigger.

I think I'd like to get some Electrostats too just to try something exotic, but you have to buy an energizer for those and I don't wanna buy the absolute cheapest you can get because if I'm gonna do it im gonna do it right

For IEMs

I like the ones I have, and they're both way more detailed than I could ever hope for, but neither are tuned exactly to my preferences. Love listening to both, but I'm still looking for one that fits my genres perfectly. Tea Pro SE is pretty damn close though. That's a very tastefully tuned set and sounds basically perfect for a lot of genres.
