in seen some of projects on rym she looks versatile looking at those genre tags
Moor Mother is her own genre
I don’t want to oversimplify what she does, but Fetish Bones is pretty much what I’ve always wanted out of “experimental rap”. clipping. are close but I can already see myself coming back to this more often than I do any of their albums. Still need to give Dälek another shot but this is the s***.
“By the Light”
I’ve made the stank face three tracks in a row now. “Chain Gang Quantum Blues” is basically an interlude and it’s hard.
When I first heard True Opera it made me think of the first Liars record and this band, Buñuel. I imagine some of you might dig ‘em if you haven’t heard of them already:
Super underrated track from November w/ Blacks’ Myths. I need a whole album of this:

Lol, I like clipping. but I don’t think they’re very experimental at all. Not compared to, say, an artist like B L A C K I E. Btw, B L A C K I E’s latest is heat:

As for Dälek, check out their collab with Fire orchestra (Swedish free jazz) and Faust (German krautrock):

Chelsea Wolfe is a fan. When asked about her favorite music of 2020, she referenced ANTHOLOGIA 01 and said,
“Moor Mother is amazing - the music her powerful mind creates is futuristic poetry.”

So, what was Moor Mother doing before the release of her breakthrough 2016 album Fetish Bones? Well, she went by Camae Defstar and performed in Philly punk bands the Mighty Paradocs
and Girls Dressed as Girls
and soon began rapping as Moor Mother Goddess.

clipping. still fall into the Death Grips/JPEG genre of hip-hop that’s clearly influenced by noise, power electronics, industrial, etc., but I suppose their music is about as accessible as that sound can get.
Not surprised to see Saul Williams’ name in the track list for A***og Fluids. Definitely check him out if you all haven’t. People ITT might f*** with his Niggy Tardust album the most (full-length collab with Trent Reznor) but his self-titled album will always be my go-to. He flips Chrome:

Which Moor Mother projects have you heard/enjoyed?
While A***og isn’t my favorite of hers, it holds a special place for me. I would listen to this album last year when I attended Black Lives Matter protests, and it served as the perfect soundtrack. LA92 hits different when you’re watching the young homies raid luxury stores in Beverly Hills.
That said, A***og isn’t an album I can just throw on at any time (as I personally can with her recent collaborator billy woods’ projects). However, when I’m prepared and in the right headspace, it’s very satisfying (and I’d say the same for her previous collaborator Saul Williams’ projects).
If you’re really invested or interested in seeing her vision for this project, I’d highly recommend reading through the book. Otherwise, you can look at the album as a collection of slave narratives with appropriately dark (see the album cover) and chaotic musical accompaniment reflecting the feeling of being trapped in an environment that runs because of you but not by you (Analog Fluids), with no way out (Sonic Black Holes). Peace
