Man I been playing around with beats on my spare time for many years now but never really bothered to actually learn about Sidechaining with a Compressor and my goodness this done put by beats on a WHOLE nother level The beat is actually breathing in and out now rather than just playing the instruments flat out. When the kick hits, the pad/sample/hi hats duck for some milliseconds. I've ALWAYS wanted to learn how to do this and finally I see results.
Still got one issue though that would be dope to finally master: Mastering. I have tried to do it now and then because my beats are too low in volume compared to actual tracks, but it's really hard to get the volume up without clipping/ruining the quality of the beat and mixing it to the point where it doesn't feel as good in the ears and you just prefer to keep the low volume version.
I'd honestly say keep working on mixing there's a lot of cheap mastering services out there like emaster and landr which will give you a decent enough master if your mix is good.
p.s. engine ears created by mixed by ali is a great tool if you have a budget.

chop samples as practice don't make any beats.
chop the same song 5 to 10 times in different ways.
it's a skill to chop samples that must be practiced and honed. use whosampled and also Youtube tutorials for your favorite beats to understand how they were chopped.
study j dilla. like actually study j dilla. his chops are still innovative to this day.

after that you study music theory and learn the ideas behind chords and melodies in order to layer instruments on top of your samples.
so you need to find the key and move off your sample or Bieber you chopped it what key and associated notes can be played.
