Use 7th and 9th chords and learn about chord inversions. The most basic r&b progression is the 2-5-1 so i suggest you start there.
It's not that bad actually. I just name the audio stem after which synth & preset I used if i need to go back and change something. Also you can just delete the vst and open it again to get another 20 mins so

Ye that's kinda one of the limitations you run into cuz it doesn't let you save presets. I guess just take a screenshot of them or write down the values of each one you changed
