are we forgetting that literally every nintendo franchise released on switch has their best sales ever.
also if the console is backwards compatible then there doesn't need to be a day 1 mega seller.
Prime Remastered only sold 1 mill. Dread sold 2 mill. Switch has plenty of games selling in the 10-20 millions, doesn’t make sense for them to forego all those franchises and make Metroid the launch title.
Also, because the successor might be backwards compatible to their most successful console yet, they can afford to not have a major system seller on launch day?
Seems like a reasonable line of thinking, except the Wii U did all that and bombed spectacularly. They thought they could skate with NSMB U and backwards compatibility on launch and it didn’t work. They learned their lesson with Switch, which is why they came out swinging in 2017 the way they did.
They need a game exclusive to Switch 2 to get existing Switch owners to upgrade. MP4 being cross gen goes against this principle. It’s most likely going to be 3D Mario.

Dread sold 3 mil in the first 12 months lol
Not bad considering it’s a 2d side scroller game which aren’t as popular nowadays
Metroid prime 4 will be a lot different, more mainstream appeal, and there’s not a lot of First person shooters on switch so it’ll be a rare gem

Logic is flawed about the Wii U release, it wasn’t a problem with needing some exclusive game because even when Wii U got tons of great exclusives people still didn’t buy it. It was just a bad console for a bunch of reasons. The gamepad was weird, it was an idea with untapped potential, it was clearly an early prototype of what the switch became.
Switch 2 will be a very different beast. It will go toe to toe with the ps5 and xsx so it’ll have 3rd party support that the Wii U was missing.
The Wii U was a radical step in a weird direction, the switch 2 will just be a normal evolution of the switch
Switch owners are already thirsty to play their library in 1440p and 4k and at higher frame rates so they will want to update

I think mp4 wont be the launch title, but im sure itll be used as a showcase title for the new technology, retro are wizards and mp remastered already looked almost too good for switch, so imagine what a switch 2 metroid prime could look like. That plus getting the enthusiasts on board early. If the game Is generational good it can have its mini botw moment too, people want new games for their new consoles so dropping a classic game in that launch period would help mp4 a lot, which i feel is in nintendo's best interest since they want the series to grow. Metroid dread sold 3+ millions to become the best selling Metroid also because It launched alongside switch oled

Wii U's major issue was the stupid f***ing confusing name. No casuals knew what it was.

Even if it was called ‘Wii 2’, I doubt that would’ve saved Nintendo’s asses.
The concept of the Wii U GamePad was its biggest downfall.
How do you go from something as simple and innovative as the Wii Remote to a monstrosity that does f*** all that is the Wii U GamePad?
But it’s a disaster that had to happen cus without it in the timeline there wouldn’t have been a Nintendo Switch.

I agree 100%. They’re holding back showing it for the Switch 2 reveal. The fact they only showed remakes and ports in the last direct basically gave it away that they’re holding back mp4 reveal for Switch 2 to show it at its best capability. It’ll still be cross gen and probably will be launch window, so a couple months after Switch 2, but it won’t be there day 1 imo
Wii U's major issue was the stupid f***ing confusing name. No casuals knew what it was.
The name was a major issue but the poor launch lineup sealed its fate. Casuals probably thought NSMB U was a rerelease/definitive edition instead of a new game. There was nothing exciting at launch to warrant anyone to buy it

Lack of first party killer exclusives at launch absolutely played a major role in its demise. Wii U didn’t start getting killer exclusives until after 1-2 years once 3D World and MK8 started dropping. By then it was too late. The 3DS had a similar problem at launch but Nintendo saved it by slashing the price. They couldn’t do that with the Wii U because the gamepad was too expensive to make, so they basically just kept the price as is. They tried doing a promotion when if you buy 1 game you get 2 others free for or some s***, but it wasn’t enough.
And I gotta disagree, people buy Nintendo consoles at launch strictly for Nintendo games, 3rd party is just a plus. Wii U had 3rd parties on Day 1 because of how successful the Wii was, but publishers jumped ship when the console started to flounder in sales.

Having a killer 1st party title like 3D Mario with global appeal on day 1 makes more sense than taking a gamble with Prime which only has appeal in the west. I still think Prime 4 will be a showcase title for Switch 2 and they’ll reveal both together, but it just won’t be there day 1
Next 3D mainline Mario is going to be so special. They really have an ace in the hole if they were willing to give mainline 2D, Mario RPG, Thousand Year Door and a Peach Spinoff to the end of a lifecycle and buy time. All of these except TYD were viable as next-gen launch releases
I think all us hardcore video game people are perfectly okay with this
Yeah we’ve almost completed the Switch’s 7 year… but I’m not ready to move on from it. It’s objectively Nintendo’s best console of all time and I love this form factor. Give us a more powerful console and I will GLADLY pay $400
My only worry is that Nintendo needs to market the Switch 2 / Pro effectively. If people treat it like the Wii U, it’ll flop cus the mainstream will think it’s what they already have
I so hope Nintendo can handle this transition well
Makes sense
I bet you the pandemic f***ed up Nintendo’s planned for a Pro model and got scaled back and just dropped the OLED and called it a day lol
Glad Nintendo did this. Switch was still selling like crazy through the pandemic so waiting was smart
Fall 2024 is hopefully the move for the next console
Don’t ever put stock into what Serkan Toto says.
If he’s considered an insider then he’s a goddamn fraud.

While I agree with you, he’s not the only one saying this
Plenty credible leakers have been saying this too
It’s just a reaffirm type of thing. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire
We def getting this next gen Switch this year
I definitely wonder how the look for the cartridge will look. Cus I assume they will change how it looks
The DS to 3DS makes sense on how they will handle it on the next Switch
Just had an extra little plastic bump so people can’t put the cartridge in the old console

If you think about it this isn’t too crazy
Mp4 and a new Mario around launch
Botw, tears and smash bros will prob just receive free upgrades via patches to run on switch 2, if it’s really a “switch 2” like we all pretty much know it will be and rumors point to
Then Mario kart X within the first 12 months of launch

https://twitter.com/_danpar/status/1742605350107312331What I’m most curious about is how they’re gonna market the 2 versions of MP4. I wonder if it’ll be like cyberpunk where Nintendo only officially shows off switch 2 footage and we don’t hear much about how it runs/looks on switch because they want to focus on the definitive version
Or will they be a bit smarter and show off both versions side by side to highlight how powerful the switch 2 is

We were already discussing Switch 2 itt for a while now.
I’m hating for sure lmao, but just letting y’all know that guy is a hack
Nintendo/Sony fans will be eating in 2024 etc. I see
PS fans wanna feast on 1st-party games from the SIE-owned studios though
PlayStation Showcase 2024 when

It’s gonna be like TP & BOTW; pretend like only one version exists.
