Too late for Odyssey 2 atp, but I can see them dropping something new where they expand on some of the seamless open world elements they introduced in Bowsers Fury

Yeah a really seamless, open world Mushroom Kingdom is probably the next move

I feel like Odyssey 2 could be really cool if they go more in-depth on the cap transformations, like instead of them all feeling simple, each transformation could be complex and have a bunch of different moves and controls so that they felt like full transformations that are as playable as regular Mario, if you know what I mean.

Also I could see them making Odyssey 2 and still incorporating the more open-world map design from bowsers fury.

To be fair, I feel like some of the cappy transformations were cool and charming enough to have been their own little game by some indie developer or something. As far as just pure concepts, all 3D marios have come up with tons of genius little moments that you only ever experience once and could have been turned into a whole series of minigames.

Nah I’m with you Odyssey 2 would’ve been fire. There were so many under utilized transformations like woodpecker that could’ve been expanded on in a sequel.

I just think the ship has sailed atp, Switch 2 will probably launch with its own unique 3D Mario. But I can see them brining back costumes and the ability to throw and jump on your cap

Yeah that feels likely, in fact with Wonder bringing us outside the mushroom kingdom I wonder if the new 3d Mario will have a completely new kingdom as well, or maybe a bunch of kingdoms like Odyssey including the newly canon flower kingdom being featured as a tie-in or something

Well Mario Wonder did just take us to the Flower Kingdom so that opens up a bunch of possibilities

They're so good at direct sequels that I think I want Odyssey 2 but I'm not sure is it more commendable to hone something already amazing down to a perfect diamond like they did on Majora's Mask, Galaxy 2 and TOTK or to just come up with a whole new original concept

I guess the likelihood of an Odyssey sequel depends on if they’ve already fully exhausted the gameplay possibilities with Cappy, and whatever new elements they come up with that they can add onto it

I feel like they need to bring back the cape/raccoon tail from SMB3 and World have a limited but satisfying flight option that gets upgraded maybe. Could have a bit of a peaceful Pilot Wings feel at times and chaotic another times.

I still occasionally fire up 64 just to shoot myself out of a cannon fly around that first level with the wing cap

Imagine a 3d Mario where you’re dropped in the middle and go to any kingdom you want like botw

    that would be crazy

and then each kingdom has different mechanics like the flower kingdom has wonder flowers and the mushroom kingdom has cappy and those are just the first 2 of 8-9 kingdoms or something

That'd probably feel amazing and kind of capitalize on the depiction from their movie which they definitely want to do

Yeah I can see Bowser’s Fury informing the sandbox aspect of the next 3D Mario, but it’s probably not going to be one seamless open world cus of the probable diversity in environments.

BF was definitely a refreshing experiment. I’m surprised I liked it more than 3D Land AND 3D World (this coming from a Galaxy stan).

Honestly I really want Super Mario Sunshine 2 just because I feel like they could do a lot with a new evolution of a mechanic like FLUDD, I love how complex Mario with the FLUDD felt compared to the galaxy and odyssey controls.

But that’s just a dream. My best guess is the new 3d mario will be called something different a be a big departure from odyssey

Sunshine deserves a remake or a reimagining (especially since they rushed development to get it out the door asap cus GameCube sales were so slow).
I don’t think there’s that much more that they can explore in the tropical setting for a potential sequel.

We’ll see, if it’s cross-gen like I think, then Nintendo switch has a huge player base (130m+) and metroid prime 4 might bring a LOT of new players to the series

Switch 2 launch day proposition will be a lot different from switch though if it’s back compat, all your games but running way better, if they do that with free updates, that concept is a system-seller in itself

Botw 4k was running behind closed doors last year so they know what they’re doing

  • Jan 2, 2024

If the Switch 2 does release this year we can say that Switch 1 is one of the greatest consoles ever. I think of Switch 1 akin to the release of the first iphone honestly. I think they have a high bar to clear but as long as they're not astronomically stupid with the successor it will be an easy buy.

Metroid Prime 4 is easily a system seller if they market it right and it actually looks good graphically and gameplay wise. I have faith that Retro will put their all since this game was restarted because of unsatisfaction with the first iteration.

A more mature graphically demanding (for a portable)Metroid game could be what the series needs

Only way I see Metroid Prime 4 being more accepted on a mainstream level is if there’s a competitive multiplayer mode (don’t knock on this; Metroid Prime Hunters was fire ).

But dwelling on it, I think Switch 2 could fly off the shelves at launch even without a major 1st-party launch title simply because of the goodwill Nintendo has amassed over the last 6 years. The Nintendo brand is in such a healthy state at the moment that casuals would be interested in a device called ‘Nintendo Switch 2’ despite there being little to no worthy exclusives for it (ahem PlayStation).

Still, no major launch title from the platform holder on day 1 would be kind of a bad look to me.
I’m curious as to why you think a new 3D Mario would release in the launch window instead of the system’s launch date
The 3D Mario team has probably been cooking since 2017, and Bowser’s Fury was developed with support from two other studios, so I’d be surprised if the next 3D Mario is still not ready by the time the new console launches.

The core-gamer audience will probably love it, but I don’t see the Metroid series having its own breakthrough BOTW moment (in terms of commercial success). Metroid Dread and Prime Remastered didn’t exactly set the world on fire despite those being on a Nintendo platform with the most healthy software sales. It just doesn’t have that appeal like Zelda does.

I think the bar Nintendo should aim for at the very least with Prime 4 is for it to be the most successful Metroid game in franchise history, and for that to happen, it needs to still be on Switch 1 (crossgen).

Metroid prime 4 is a whole different story. We’re talking about a cutting edge Nintendo sci-fi game that is rumored to be running on a system that can use dlss to run equivalent graphics to a ps5 in the matrix demo. Even though the switch version won’t look that good, it’ll still reach a huge new audience because of the switch player base

Metroid dread was more of a classic 2d game for fans of that style, and it really delivered, but it wasn’t going for a larger audience.

Remasters don’t usually sell that well, period. Unless it’s like Mario kart 8 deluxe or something

Metroid has never been a system seller though. Dread and Prime remastered sold modestly. It’s not even a seller in Japan, Metroid Prime 1 on GC only sold 50k there. Nintendo will want their next console to succeed there on day 1 too, not just in the states where Metroid is more popular.

are we forgetting that literally every nintendo franchise released on switch has their best sales ever.

also if the console is backwards compatible then there doesn't need to be a day 1 mega seller.
