Okay Gene got me on this one

I know we’re all mad at MKW being $80 and all Switch 2 Edition games being $80 but this is a totally fair point that I’m afraid he got me on lol

    Yeah s*** is gettin tiresome
I get the rage, but with the economic and political situation in the world, the rampant inflation all over the globe, if anyone expected this and/or the games to be cheaper or at the same price as with Switch1, they were out of their minds
I’m preordering the MK bundle as soon as that preorder link goes live for my country i dont even f***ing care

Its crazy people are playing dumb saying smth like "whats the difference between mk and DK for 10$ difference"
Like obviously they are selling it a price point where they can maximize sales and make back the money they spent on developing the game . ppl not realizin we had it rly good last 30 years for games to be locked at 60 bucks or less

So i found out this is happening because switch 2 cartridges are very expensive, and since the console supports 1080p and 4k, assets have to be high quality, so they need bigger cartridges. The games like cyberpunk Who opted for a physical cartridge with the full game inside in fact will be 70$, and might in part explain (although not justify) the prices of the Nintendo 1st party games (not mario kart tho lol)

  • Apr 3, 2025

I think we're getting at the point where physical media and portable consoles aren't compatible anymore. As a PC and Nintendo user who loves collecting physical games, im f***ed lmao

switch is just built for digital imo, you can take it on the go and have your whole library

it's not like ps5/xbox where you're only playing it in one location

So many things wrong with this man.

DVDs used to be $20. Then Blu rays took over and were $20-25 with DVDs going down in price. Then 4Ks took over and were/are normally $20-30 now (unless you're getting steelbooks or whatever). There's barely been a cost increase as they've continued to release for decades.

They're enhancing the quality, and often come WITH digital copies or in combo packs with previous gen discs, and they're barely any more than they were previously. Even now, selling a single movie for a $20 price increase than industry standard or even what it sold for prior is nuts. The idea of a physical video game being sold WITH a digital copy redeemable to your profile is unheard of.

Additionally, movies have always gone on pretty significant sales from every single major studio (even Disney). A 4K that's marked at $30 won't stay that way for long or year-round without a few pretty hefty sales.

And don't even get me started on books. Tale of Two Cities is f***ing PUBLIC DOMAIN. You can buy that s*** however you want for any price point you want.

To my own surprise I was more impressed by the Switch 2's hardware capabilities than its software in this Direct. The (now officially confirmed) support for 4K resolution with 60 fps or 1080p resolution with up to 120 fps + HDR made the Switch 2 feel up to date for a Nintendo console.

The new/returning features (GameChat, GameShare, built in microphone with noise cancellation etc) were also nice little quality of life additions.

The presentation did however lack first party Switch 2 exclusives, which at the end of the day is the most important thing about a Nintendo console in my opinion, and the few Switch 2 exclusives (basically Mario Kart and DK) that were shown didn't really look that visually different from a Switch 1 game besides perhaps the higher resolutions.

Hopefully we'll get to see some more first party Switch 2 games in the next few months. The true test will be their next single player 3D Zelda and 3D Mario.

How are you feeling a day later?

The first reveal of Mario Kart World back in January was very underwhelming af and barely looked better then MK8D

But the full unveiling of MKW yesterday was extremely impressive and DEFINITELY looked “next gen” to me. I could tell right away how much better it looked then MK8D

Same with DK Bananza. It looked extremely high quality. It gave me Mario Odyssey vibes but way more detailed and looks graphically impressive to me in every way

    We get:

    Mart Kart World in June

    Donkey Kong Banaza in July

With a crazy amount of 3rd party June-August

We could have a Direct in June or September to fill out 1st Party games so I’m not too worried

why is DK 70 and mario kart 80

    what differentiates the two

I have never played a game in 120 FPS so I don't know what that feels like or if it's as noticeable as going from 30 to 60 (doubt it). My TV doesn't even support 120. 60 is the highest I've done and 60 is my general standard/expectation with new games.

    Same

The fact that it’s possible for games to go up to 120FPS on Switch is dope but 4K 60FPS is where I think I will be playing just about every game in that mode

Are people concerned about 80 dollar price tags on some Switch 2 games because those specific games don't seem to be worth the price, or because no game is worth 80 dollars or more? I'm asking because if I go on my PS5 store right now I see Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassins Creed Shadows, Death Stranding 2 all at 90 bucks so these kinds of prices already have a precedent. Video games are a luxury hobby and games have always been expensive to me. Used to be 60 bucks when I was a kid, now it's 70 or 80 or 90.

No game is worth $80+. I understand deluxe or collectors editions being more expensive. No s***. You’re getting more things so a bigger price is acceptable

Mario Kart looks f***in amazing but charging an extra $10 just because you can is just an ugly anti-consumer practice when you’re gonna already be making crazy money
