I'd honestly just get RAM, SSDs etc from a local seller but the CPUs could be worth the risk, most CPU failures happen in the first couple days of use

just copped another mini pc from temu like this month its pretty decent

I used a 4.3" RCA screen for car backup cams as a DIY performance display. It was $13 on AliExpress, powered by Mini-USB, 480p, with built in female AV input. With that I used an HDMI to AV adapter, $3, also from AliExpress, hooked up to my GPU like any other additional display. Used this program MoBro to make a custom widget with my temps, the time, ram.

You could so much cool stuff with these <$3 hdmi to av adapters. The adapter downscaling to 440p while my output is upscaled means you have to get crafty. Im currently trying to figure out a way to customly scale a media player so I could get a second mini display and use it as a music center.

I’m been out the pc game for a long while now. I don’t really even know what’s good nowadays.

Is this a decent computer? It’s for my sister, she just need something that can do some 3D rendering, like using Blender, some gaming like the Sims,

I’ve had a good experience with CyberPower PC but only if you’re ordering custom direct from their site and also get the better warranty and packing option. If you get one from a store, you’ll usually at least wanna switch out the power supply but on their site, you can make one that has a solid Corsair PSU of whatever wattage needed.

I’m no expert but I think the all in ones may not be the best for those uses.. I think the GPU is more important for 3D rendering so something with a full blown GPU may work better though I’m unsure of specific recommendations, would maybe wanna turn to google and Reddit for that. And I could also be totally wrong and these work fine for that nowadays but it’s not what I’ve heard in the past

EDIT: I will say even just for gaming (can’t speak to Sims specifically but in general) 32gb of ram is starting to become the new desired baseline

not entirely sure cause I build my own. I just know those two to be very reputable and sponsored by streamers. I know that doesn't exactly mean they're the best but just popular ones that I know wouldn't necessary screw you like lesser known brands could

for how much this computer costs, it is very slow. Running Blender, mutltiple chrome tabs, and music at the same time on that processor and on only 16gb of ram is going to suck. building this yourself would be cheaper and faster

    -ryzen 5 7500f ($130)
    -rx 580 ($100)
    -2x16 fast ram ($100)
    -any cheap am5 mobo ($100)
    -any budget case (<$60)
    -heatsink ($40)
    -fans ($20)

$550. spend the rest on a nice mouse and a mechanical keyboard with switches you like.

Just built my first pc. Stressful as hell, and for some reason i have to turn it on, then off, then back on again in order for it to display on the monitor. Unless thats just what happened yesterday lol. I have to check today.

Im thinking one of the ports on my GPU may be faulty which is crazy.

Relying too much on AI I guess? Yeah I would prefer it been more powerful and having a lot of good stuff compared to what we got... But it seems like AI etc. is the future unfortunately so I won't be surprised if the 6000 series GPU's will also use it a lot and be disappointing again tbh

hear me out. NVIDIA might f*** themselves in the gaming market and lose to AMD if they keep focusing on AI features. It won't matter because it makes them so much money though

Your take might be true since Steam is pushing hard for linux gaming to take over and AMD always had great drivers for linux while Nvidia had s*** drivers there

I know this is the Build thread, but I assumed this was the best place to post it —

I was planning on buying a new PC desktop soon but saw that there were only a few models available and they were all super pricey (I saw a lot that were under $500 in November and December).

Anyone know if that’s due to tariffs already kicking in, or is it just because the 2025 inventory hasn’t been released yet?

You are correct the new parts not being released yet is inflating remaining supply of current gen stuff but PC gaming beyond 1080p is just expensive tbh

Ahh real. I actually don’t do any gaming, most intensive stuff is video/audio/photo editing for work.

I just have a desktop that’s over a decade old and wanted to finally get a new one

fair enough, I frankly have no clue what’s ideal specs wise for that kinda stuff tbh
