We really getting a whole gen of last of us again aren’t we

legit all i play are japanese games from third parties, so it's not a huge issue for me, but still kinda sucks there's not a ton of first party representation for those games.

They need to make a fusion of western and japanese games. Like imagine the best of both worlds. Western writing and production value, Japanese gameplay and game design, music etc. s*** would be fire

Making your ENTIRE first party lineup AAA is unsustainable. The cost of making games that take 5-6 years to develop and completely ignoring the AA market is going to come back to bite them in the near future.

They could afford to make these $150-200 million budget games that launch with no MTX precisely because of the revenue and lineup support they got from third parties. With Activision and the ENTIRE western RPG and FPS market gone, that’s going to be much harder.

My hope was by consolidating their handheld and console development, they’d go back to making a handful of AAA titles every 2 or so years, and a sea of AA, indie, and niche experimental games to fill those gaps.

Unfortunately for Sony they’ve cultivated an extremely pedantic, blockbuster-obsessed audience. Every time a new game from them is announced, the graphics and tech are scrutinized HEAVILY before anything else. GoW got it, even Returnal, one of their most experimental games in years got some of it.

The common saying is that Nintendo fans let them get away with everything, I think Sony has the opposite issue. They can’t branch out and focus on other things because their audience really only wants one kind of game from them. Always tech, tech, tech everything else. It sucks for people who don’t like their new direction.

100%, it’s just following hollywood logic. you’re absolutely right in that then being so short-sighted and having such a narrow focus will definitely come back to bite them in the ass, I hate seeing it

most of these “AAA” games aren’t even worth playing if we keeping it a buck like one good game for every 4 soulless yet technically beautiful games we get from them
