I watched the whole opening cinematic and was like "oh this is gonna be a story driven single player FPS with a fleshed out character shooter multiplayer." NOPE, the actual game is Overwatch and all the cinematics is basically lore: the tv show. F***ing dumb. They really could have dunked on Blizzard after O2's disastrous launch by having an actual PvE. Looks like they just copy and pasted their plan instead

How was Astro Bot the absolute best thing in this State of Play, like by miles? I would have never guessed a full 3D platformer featuring the "inside the PS5 minigame" robot would be the showstopper or look this good.

Yeah, and I still am wondering that. Why open the state of play showcasing a new game from in-house studio with a 5 minute video thats basically a guardians of the galaxy plot thread...for a exclusively multiplayer character shooter? Who/what are the cinematocs for? Its an Overwatch clone...

Not that overwatch doesnt have lore and character background content, but it's not at the forefront of their marketing materials — it's for a (presumably) minority group of people who are already deep into the game and also give two cents about who the characters are in a non-narratve multiplayer shooter.

Anybody like me, who doesnt regularly keep up with video game industry news or release announcements — only watching big showcase events like state of play/treehouse — would be understandably confused when they realize it's exclusively a PVP shooter after watching a 5 min narrative cinematic that initially seemed to imply some kind of plot staging and/or PVE scenario.

Also the PS5 Showcase (PS5 Pro reveal there too... Maybe... Or it's going to have its own event) is happening September 2024 or well nothing later than October 2024 as the PS5 Pro is still coming November 2024 and the leaked release date which is of course is unconfirmed and can change... Is apparently 11/14/2024.

Yeah I definitely think they are gonna have a showcase later and announce the PS5 Pro and games to go along with it like Ghost 2 and probably some other PS Studio announcements like Bend studio's new game. Hopefully the GoW DLC is there too

Dunno how much stuff they'll show at that PS5/PS5 Pro Showcase as I am sure that they'll have some stuff for The Game Awards 2024 and maybe another State of Play before 2024 is over... But I do expect some decent games, reveals and the PS5 Pro been good and then in 2025 is when stuff begins getting very exciting!

Every now and then is cool but when people criticize the PlayStation as a console for "movie games" no matter how reductive that may be, in comparison to what the PS2 and PS3 had, there's a problem.

Industry going to crash soon anyway so that's that.

People are going to have to actually put their money where their mouth is and buy Astro Bot if they wanna show Sony there is still a market for these games
