Yes if she would have stayed alive and been stuck in the hospital, but not now that Dems can push through her replacement to the committee.

The only reason there was talk of them not overriding a GOP block to her seat on that committee while she was alive was out of respect to her. Now that she’s dead I can’t imagine they wouldn’t use their powers to override any GOP attempt to block a replacement.

How is that possible? Dems still have 50-49 power without her seat, counting Sinema (add Feinsteins CA senator replacement in and it’s 51 to 49). Count Sinema out and it’s 50 50 (with Harris breaking the tie). The only way Dems can’t do it is if another person joins Sinema to prevent it.

Stopping this is not something that really anybody other than political junkies would care about and we’re a year away from an election, so no real harm to voting it through for any Dems in purple states up for reelection. Only reason not to is if you’re actually a hardcore conservative.

Following up part 2: GOP has already said they wouldn’t do this. Even if they’re lying (which of course wouldn’t be new), the Dems can get rid of the filibuster for committee assignments and there’s no reason they wouldn’t have the votes to do that, as I explained in my previous post.
