i dont know if this is true in a broad sense but the late 00s/early 10s era of youtube, Angry Video Game Nerd but for x type of genre/media has produced some of the worst "art" i've ever seen
the avgn movie, the nostalgia critic movies, rap critic music, etc is pretty uniformly awful
ego/self-aggrandizing is really the downfall of a lot of these types of guys

It's actually the fact that they hone in on their craft of critiquing instead of actually making art itself. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of artists out there who could give good critique on others work if they decide to go that route on twitch. Ie sometimes Joe Budden.

Nah the people who are overly critical of art but are good at making it aren’t thought of as critics - they’re seen as opinionated artists. Painters are the most overly critical artists ever and directors are second

Yeah he used to be a part of Channel Awesome and you basically described every other content creator from that era. The only exception now being Lindsey Ellis, who has actually made some award winning books and documentaries and pretty much birthed the video essay genre on YouTube.
