Well to go deeper the “theory” is that whoever is really running the world needs everyone to be wrapped up in a fake perception of the world in order for them to stay in power.
On a smaller scale though, why lie about the size of Africa (on current day maps and globes)? It’s been confirmed to be the biggest continent but still depicted as smaller
if we knew the earth was flat would that change the people in power? no. There is literally no reason to lie about something so pointless.

soapmanwunThat's exactly why this conspiracy is bullshit. You would need to go to some remote part of Antarctica to prove it. It's practically unfalsifiable. To prove the Earth is round all you need is some basic understanding of physics
I think this is why the theory exist
The way in which people see the flat earth is through the lense of it being a 2 dimensional object.
Which, it can be represented as.
And needed to be represented as for a long while.
I think our perception of a three dimensional object doesn't scale will, because we are not made to see objects of such large scale.
Limitations of human perspective.
I also think a lot of people may have checked out of mathematics in middle school, so they have only done linear 2 dimensional algebra. So they use that as reasoning for everything in the world around them.
