    and I absolutely f*** with EL-P

The post was from 03' and that a distinctive time with the back-pack vs commercial rap era.

The underground was a whole different beast then. Ppl had to really press up their own CD's, do a mass amount of shows, especially worldwide if the name is that good/hot enough. Mainstream artists had to really give out CD demos to some A&R to get on and all that and had to rely on the radio and MTV/BET/VH1 videos and award shows to stay poppin...

Streaming era wasn't really in at all yet.....physical CD bootlegging was @ its prime then, along with Limewire and Megaupload etc....plus YouTube wasn't even around yet.

But back to the backpackers...See THEM niggaz just hated that Neptunes run back then. They had the game in vice grip. They ran 1998-2010 whether ppl like it or not.

Damn man, the music industry really has changed in the past 20 years. I feel like it's hard in some ways to get a fanbase or a labels attention now, but that's if you're not willing to give up your privacy for something huge. I'm still working on this personally, but I hope I can make it.

Backpackers and hipsters loved Clipse tho

To be fair they might have a point that 150k worth of gear seems like a lot to make the Neptunes sound tbh. Most of the comments are coming from that context and idk if I can fully disagree with that

  • Feb 2, 2022

it always feel really whimsical to look at old forum threads, specially one from early 2000s

I be like "damn Internet really is that old"

True s***, also from me making a lot of Neptunes s***, they mostly worked on their sound from Triton and make their drums on their ASR-10 then route their sounds and arrangements to one Korg Workstation

Kanye's work is amazing. His act for picking samples is second to none. The man takes humor in what he raps about and that what i like. He’s not about making himself seems like something he’s not. His cockiness makes him who he is.. What’s wrong with being cocky... Have you sold 900,000 albums in one week? Have you been on the cover of time mag? The man is making moves and so what is he’s the international a******.. it doesn’t effect me any.. His work is class. Beats are an update of what rza did yes but even further then what rza ever took it... And Im a rza fan since wayyyyy back. Have you heard late reg.? The mastering is amazing... The quality is 2nd to none... he actually worked with a skilled musician to help remake most of his samples... You know he made nothing on diamonds... Cause he had to pay the original artist for the sample.. Any other artist would say fuk the track.. He doesn’t care to make money on the beats... he just does... he gave 100% publishing for the diamonds sample up.. That unheard of. But thats love for music, being more concered with people have a track they can feel then some 2nd rate s***... most you asshats who talk about i wish he died? lame... sounds like your jealous more then anything. Why wish death on someone... lame... Anyway... Make a beats as captivating as him and you will get my respect. some people i swear:rolleyes2 what u want to listen to.. aseop rock lmao

    😢

Goes to show that a lot of legendary and influential art isn’t universally loved at its time

And it’s mostly due to people stuck in the past of what was popping or their age or marketing most of the time. It’s a cycle the s*** that was new or groundbreaking for them more than likely wasn’t like by the previous generation

Lmfao the past is the future fr nothing has changed

  • NORE talked about this on the Drink Champs interview with Pharrell, he claimed that people didn't want him working with the Neptunes because they just make the same beat over and over again.

i wonder if they were socially awkward dudes who ended up single tho?

I’d say a bulk of them are probably settled down. Honestly early 80s babies are just edgy in general like this. Especially when it comes to hip hop

Bruh, look at most of the posts itt

    Good post

It’s always surreal to see peoples real time takes on things we now view as iconic/era defining/avant garde

I like doing this for a lot of 2000’s rap topics/moments
